Thanks guys. Using the De Faoite "hares" was Vic's idea (they were drawn for me by my daughter Martha) and the Sparrowhawks my idea. I'm very pleased with the look. .....and so am I. Cheers vic

Dave, that's just beautiful, frankly. The chalk horse designs are inspired. well, the chalk horse inspired designs .. as they're hares In keeping with my family tradition I reserve the right to be stupid at least 55% of the time.

Pete - You're not stupid at all and I totally see what you mean about the chalk horse influence - it's the same method of using separated lines and strokes to make the shape. The body is now finished and bound:

Dave, that is a thing of beauty. I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on it sometime soon.
Thanks Vic

Phil - thanks. If the shape is simplified so that it can be cut and leaves the top stable anything is possible. More progress:

Well today I got Sparrowhawk strung up "in the white" before finishing with the Grover tuners fitted without the ferrules installed, a Bog Oak nut and bone saddle : I recorded me having a go at Nic Jones's "Rins on the Shore", in D A dd tuning: "Ruins on the Shore"This was recorded into my Zoom H4n in Stereo mode with no added effects.

What a sound! Very impressed with that - works great as a solo instrument, but should also mix with guitars and stuff really well I'm sure. A worthy addition to your range Dave - Vic will be well-chuffed! (dulcimer smiley) Keith

That sounds absolutely amazing.. It would cut through a "normal" acoustic mix really well... Any thoughts on how you might install a pick up of some sort?

Vic - I'm glad you are excited Keith - thanks. It sounds nice and it will be interesting to hear how the finish will change it - in my experience a finish gives the sound more focus and improves it. Andrew - thanks. An internal pickup is probably best installed before the back is glued on but there are serious issues if it goes wrong at some stage. Probably best to use externally mounted ones like the K&K Big Twin. You could also fit an under saddle one with an external jack socket.
