... the Award Session ones I mentioned come in whatever length you want - the 6m usually too long, though the latter are very handy for walking out well forward of the speakers for an idea of what the punters might hear. Keith And crowd surfing?

Congratulations Scorpiodog!
My next purchase will probably be a high end uke, so I quietly had my fingers crossed for this one. I did recently win an England Lion mascot in a draw in the Euros, so I can't complain. Actually I can, it was bloody useless...

Another Tele fan here, and a Squier fan. Terrific guitars that I always find fun to play.

You can check scientifically if you have too many guitars with this handy flow chart.

I just downloaded this free app on my phone. It's an Indian sounding drone in any key and you can blend a mix of sitar and harmonium sounds. I like how it sounds under slow airs played on my uke, maybe a bit weird, but quite atmospheric and a lot of fun to play around with. If anyone's interested, just search for 'shruti box' in your app store.

I used to hear people say if a guitar speaks to you, get it. I had no idea what they meant, no guitar had ever spoken to me! I have played quite a few guitars but never one I felt COMPLETELY comfortable with, there was always something I would like to change, however small, and I think it restricted my playing, maybe just to a small degree.
Then, a friend saw me looking over his Fylde Ariel and asked me if I wanted a go. I played it for 5 minutes and it felt almost like it was playing itself, it just felt so right for me, comfortable to hold, easy to finger and pick and with just the right response. And it sounded lovely even with my basic picking, such a rich and smooth sound. I still remember how it felt playing it that day, it was such a profound experience.
That was it, a guitar had spoken to me! I was in the very lucky position to be able to order my own from Roger the next day and after a few months, the big brown van arrived with it.
I couldn't be happier, it's still a joy to play every time I pick it up. It's made me want to play more and it's cured my GAS, I haven't thought about buying another guitar since, I've found the guitar for me. Still on the lookout for the perfect uke though....

Thanks for your replies!
I do need to listen more. I tend to listen to tab book CD or online midi to find tunes I like and then just them. Listening to how others play them and the techniques they use must give an insight into ornamentation.
The link to the DADGAD site is very useful in explaining techniques. I need to start experimenting and chucking a few in to see what happens.
Then again, I might just get a guitar like that. Then everyone would just look at the guitar and not care what I play!

I've been playing fingerstyle for about 3 years and have great fun playing pieces that I learn from tab. I've read about ornamentation and I can hammer-on and pull-off and I know a bit of the theory about mordants and reverse mordants and such like. I would like to be able to apply these in my playing to add more interest and individuality to my playing and move on a bit from just playing it straight from tab.
I played a DVD of Martin Simpson playing a Celtic medley today. I've got the tab and I could play the piece but when he plays it there's much more going on! I think now is the time to think about it a bit more.
I would be interested to know what you can tell me about ornamentation techniques, how and when to apply them, how to practice them to incorporate them naturally into my playing and anything else that might be relevant.
Thanks!

Martin Simpson interview with Pete Howlett on picking up his new uke. Unfortunately he doesn't play any tunes but it sounds lovely. I look forward to hearing him play some full pieces.
