Must admit I'm going through a GAS phase at the min. The head of the Fun Police has granted permission for me to "do what you want and get what you like" whilst simultaneously brainwashing me into believing that if I go down the "made to measure" route as opposed to "off the peg" that I will be afraid to play it and leave it in it's case. I do have the full range of "off the peg" guitars to choose from though :-) Now if only I could decide... This is known as a window of opportunity. Move fast before it closes.

We're up in Exeter for the weekend, primarily as we have tickets to see Cara Dillon on Sunday night. Of course the big question was would we, or would we not, call in at Project Music, the Lowden dealers, while we're in town.
I couldn't help myself and Mrs Breedlover was willing. So in we go and there they are, a row of six Lowdens just hanging there begging me to play them. I explained to the salesman that I hoped to be buying one later in the year when our house move was all sorted out. He was quite happy to let me have a go.
First the S23 - gorgeous sound and I loved the tiny body and those lovely round hips - so sexy! Then a larger model, more pricey but not quite so impressive. Then the S25 - it was love. Fabulous tone: such purity of tone and wonderful sustain. I tried a couple of Brooks. Very nice but they just didn't quite do it for me. I went back to the S25 and the guy then delivered the bombshell. He showed me a tiny mark, hardly larger than a pinhead. I had difficulty seeing it. He said as a result of this.....blemish, I guess you might call it, there was £400 off the list price.
And then the wonderful Mrs Breedlover, on Valentines Day, told me to go ahead and buy it. It's now sitting at the foot of our hotel bed looking ravishing.
My wife would like you to know that for a fee and expenses she is available to act as your persuader next time you're in the music shop.

Really looking forward to hearing you play it! Your wife is a wonderful woman - I love her! If I were to hire her services, would she be bringing your credit card with her...? Have a great time at the Cara Dillon concert - she sounds and looks almost as ravishing a an S25 - hope you can tear yourself away! Keith

It's now sitting at the foot of our hotel bed looking ravishing. This is more like it. There's been too much negative talk on this forum. 'I played a great guitar, but I didn't buy it' 'I saw an instrument on sale but I don't have enough space to get it' These kind of statements above let everyone down, including the ghost of Winston Churchill, HRH Queen Elizabeth II, Captain Birdseye, and this forum. Andy, with your new Lowden you are a suitable role model for this forum. Good job. Enjoy the gig tomorrow, and when you can buy the Mrs a bacon sandwich and a Cornetto. Not just for letting you get the guitar but they are delicious.

to the lowden club. Very many congratulations Andy on having an understanding and encouraging wife and a Lowden S. It's a magical combination for sure and one to be treasured! And isn't it wonderful not to have to go through the agonies of waiting for one to be built? Plus a discount too! I recall trying the O size and it needed just a bit more attack from the player to make it sing than my natural style allowed. I guess an O was the larger model you tried. I had been expecting to go the 25 route myself when I started searching for an S - I do generally like Cedar tops most, but ended up with a 35 and I don't usually like spruce tops - Lowden magic at work there. Whatever the top though the S series are wonderful guitars and their voices are superb - you've summed it up so well with highlighting purity of tone and sustain. I wish you many very happy years of playing! Mark

It is hard not to contrast the most excellent Mrs Andy P's largesse on St Valentine's Day with Martin's decision to buy his wife an ironing board. The first is a wife to be valued above rubies; the second is a husband with a masochistic streak that should be indulged. Brian

You could try the well-known ambulance chasers, "Injury Guitars For You"... Brian
