I already have a guitar by Tom which he put together whilst still an apprentice with Ervin, it's an OM featuring a top made from Engelmann spruce and back and sides of fiddleback mahogany - very nice too ! Some time later Tom happened to mention that he'd come upon a few outstanding sets of The Tree, so we decided to lay a set aside for a future build... Well folks, the time has come around and things are in motion ! I have become very enamoured of 12 fret guitars with a cutaway and so we decided to go in that direction with this guitar. Tom has sourced some master grade Adirondack, which will form the top of this instrument. I'm guessing it's from the same stash as my Taran Tirga Mhor by Rory Dowling, in which case it will be outstanding. I've left Tom to handle much of the aesthetic... Tom recently sent me some images, so here goes : More, no doubt to follow during the next few weeks ! Cheers, Ian

Fellow travellers - my annual summer guitar do will be on Saturday July 20th - it's always on the third Saturday in July.
We'll have a bunch of builders - Tom Sands, Rosie & Karl (Turnstone Guitars), Rory Dowling (Taran Guitars) and maybe a couple of others from Europe along with some pretty amazing instruments, players and generally some top people.
If you haven't been before and want to attend, PM me and I'll supply details...
Cheers,
Ian

Hi Johnny, yes my grandfather (min farfar en skurk) was from Gotland. I thought he had just left me an interesting tale to tell, but seems he left my this too! Probably far too late, but I've given up drinking as after the cancer treatment, I can't taste it anyway. Has any of your afflicted family have it successfully "repaired" ? Andy, taler du saa Dansk? Og var din farfar virkelig en skurk? Could be a good tale in itself... Cheers, Ian

Nice one Martin !
Rosie makes seriously good guitars. I've also played that guitar and thought it was lovely.

The National Treasure known as Roy Bailey left the stage peacefully yesterday. Over the last few years it has been my very great privilege and pleasure to accompany Roy at Wickham festival several times and at Towersey festival back in 2015 an event which was recorded live (secretly) and issued as a live album.
I shall miss him...
Cheers,
Ian

For me, thumb pick and acrylic nails (PMI). The rock hard acrylics allow me to dig in hard if I need to and balance the volume and tone of the thumb pick.

Grant, all the very best for a speedy and effective recovery. My wife had a mild stroke back in January. She was very fortunate in that she suffered no debilitary effects, although she still experiences ongoing tingling sensations in the right side; it was a real shock though and a pretty big wake up call.
Cheers,
Ian

+ 1 for Stuart Palmer. He installed pickup systems in two of my guitars (Highlander & K&K Pure Mini) and did a great job. He also does Martin Simpson's work...
Cheers,
