Forgot to mention Richard Smith also checkout The Kings of Strings on youtube. As for song writers there’s loads Paul Weller, Malcolm Young, Bob Dylan, Neil Diamond, to be honest there’s too many to list.

Breedlover Have you tried speaking to Lowden. I like the look of Lowdens and have been considering buying on but based on what I’ve read on the forum they sound like very temperamental guitars.

Breedlover Perhaps they are homesick, missing Sunny Cornwall 😎. Only joking. I would say temperature has a lot to do with it. Try leaving it out for a few days let it settle then give it a go. I only put mine in the case when I take it somewhere.

Good advice from Keith. I basically pick songs I want to learn, go on YouTube to see how it is done and take it from there. Another thing I do is play some riffs to warm up my fingers, such as day tripper, sweet child o mine, la bamber, etc you’ll soon improve you playing.

Whilst searching through youtube came across this chap Johnny Flynn. He’s an actor as well as a musician. He’s released 4 or 5 albums. Can’t stop playing his stuff on YouTube. Should check him out.

Have a look on the HSE's website. You would probably only have to do amps, pa and any extension leads. Basically anything with a plug on it.

This is all getting a bit like X factor. The thing is when deciding who is good enough it's a bit subjective. I've seen people murder some songs and yet perform others really well. The other thing to consider is if the same few are performing week in week out and no else gets a chance you run the risk of people getting fed up and stop attending. Also the venue that hosts the club expect to make a bit of money out of people buying drinks. If letting people perform whether they are good or not keeps them attending then I'm all for letting them have a go.

Dreadnought even the pro's have the words in front of them. Some have a folder on a stand some have smart phone or tablet clamped to a mic stand. Like I said it doesn't bother me after all it's supposed to be a bit of fun.

Don't see the problem with music stands iPads tablets etc, every orchestra has them and they are professional musicians. I'm assuming most on here are amateur i.e. Have day jobs so don't have all day to rehearse. As for is there a future for folk clubs I would say yes. I'm lucky where I live there are plenty within a 15 mile radius, granted most now cater for all styles of music not just folk. Some clubs are sing around types, a few have pa's and one is a full on jam night with electric guitars and drums. Don't have a problem either with pa or sing around. Age groups are mixed apart from one where it's mainly made up of coffin dodgers. At this particular club they call me lad and I'm 52, lol.

I have a Boss RC30 loop pedal. I mainly use it for practicing with. It has 10 preset drum beats but you can download more. It's great for practicing improvisation. A little tip for getting the timing right start the loop on the count of 1 then cout to 4 and stop the loop on the count of 1. There is another pedal I've seen but not tried it's called the Trio plus. You strum a few cords and then it plays a drum beat and a bass line in the same key. Some people have used for live performances. I've got a TC helicon play acoustic. Gives a nicer tone to the guitar when it's plugged in and it helps you sing in key.
