Very nice vikingblues. Not sure about the 3 months under the bed though. You've got more will power than me.

I have just recently downloaded lyric pad which can be used on android. You can download lyrics, put set lists together and save your other files to it. It also has auto scroll which you can set the speed. You can also edit the lyrics and put the chords in if you want. The other thing I like about it is you can email the developer if you have any problems. There's also a forum on the lyric pad website which is useful. Only had it a week and downloaded over 50 songs on it already.

I have a Takamine G series which sounds really good and you can get these from £300. They have really good electronics. They are made in China but I will say is that the sound with these guitars is that it is consistent. I haven't played a bad one unlike some more expensive makes I could mention.
The best advice as others have said is try as many guitars as you can and go with your ears and don't worry about the name.

Its good to hear that the pain eases over time? . Annoyed with myself more than anything else. Probably won't be the last person it happens to and some of the experiences you guys have had I got off quite lightly. At least it still sounds sweet.

Chris
After playing for several years and like yourself playing from tab I have decided to learn theory. Have decided to go a different route than you though. I've downloaded a theory book from Justin guitar and to be honest I've found that it makes sense. I've also found that having a jam buddy really helps.
Good luck with your quest.

Gutted. Whilst playing my new Faith knocked it against a chest of drawers and marked the top. Half inch scratch which gone through the lacquer. Not sure whether to get it repaired or leave it. Anyone done something similar and got it repaired and what did it look like after?

Well I can confirm that after a few days of playing my new Faith Venus I definitely made the right choice. Can't believe how nice it sounds and how easy it is to play. Sounds great strummed and when I attempt to have a go at finger picking. Will definitely have to start practising finger picking.

Thanks guys. Yes I'm really looking forward to getting to know my new baby. Vikingblues the body of the Venus is smaller than a dreadnought guitar and even if you don't use the pickup it has has a built in tuner which is very handy. Well I'm off to go and play my guitar.

Well after several weeks of searching have finally got myself a new guitar, a Faith high gloss Venus. Went to PMT in Manchester talk about guitar porn this place should be triple x rated. Basically they had a lot of major brands on show and I tried most of them. Went there to try the Yamaha ac3r, Taylor 314ce and the Martin gpcpa4. I thought the Yamaha was OK but it was not saying buy me. Then I tried the Taylor again it was good but it was not saying buy me. Whilst playing the Taylor I notice they had a Faith stand. The High Gloss Venus was the first one I tried and I couldn't put it down. Just to make sure I tried the Martin but to be honest I think my mind was already made up. I soon put the Martin back and carried on playing the Faith. Needless to say my credit card took the hit and I'm now one very happy bunny. When I brought it home I let my son have a go he to had a problem putting it down. Eventually his girlfriend managed to distract him long enough to get it back. I was really impressed with it when it was plugged into an amp to. Going to give it one last play before I put it to bed. ??

You want to try living with someone who is a very accomplished guitar player. My son makes sounds on his guitars I can only dream of. He's got a very cheap Encore acoustic in his room and he makes sound sweat. Trouble is his mum won't let me throw him out. What makes it worse is he can play his guitar all day and she doesn't say a word. If I play for more than hour I get moaned at? .

Not had much experience with the loop pedal but have recently bought the boss rc30. Up to now just used it for practicing. Good for playing along with the different drum beats. Have now started to add backing vocals. Its easy to use, the hardest bit is getting the timings right but you'd have that problem with any looper you buy. The case is very sturdy and it is great fun to use. There are plenty of reviews on them on YouTube but in the end it is down to you which one you buy. The best thing I found is that it has helped me keep in time. Good luck with your search.

Hi Scorpiodog
Yes I'm starting to find this out. Never had the nerve to ask to play an expensive guitar before when in a shop. A friend of mine was 50 last year and went into several shops. His wife said he could spend as much as he liked. Each shop he went into he just said the guys in the shop to just keep bringing him guitars no matter what the cost. He ended up with a Yamaha A3M with its new fancy SRT pre-amp. He said it was the best sounding guitar acoustically and plugged in and this was after trying Gibsons, Martins, Taylors etc.
Initially I did fancy a Gibson but after trying them and several others out I'm just gonna go for what sounds the best providing its in my budget.
There's a couple of places in Manchester and another one in Runcorn that have a large selection of guitars, so will keep you informed.

Yesterday I had a bit of time on my hands whilst my wife was doing a spot of shopping. My 50th birthday is in a couple of months and I've been given a budget to buy a new guitar, so decided to go and try a few out. First one I tried was a Gibson J29 which was £1599. At first I thought it was me but it sounded as if it was being played in another room, very dull and quiet, was not impressed. Next on the list was a Martin D28 which was just under £2000. This sounded better and was ok when finger picking but it did not inspire me to get my wallet out. By this time I was feeling depressed. For the first time in my life I've got some money to buy a reasonably high end guitar and they sound s**t. I have a Takamine G series which cost me just under £250 nearly 10 years ago and it sounds tonnes better.
The next one I tried was a Farida D62E which was £800. This was on a different planet compared to the Gibson and Martin. Only played it acoustically but it sounded tonnes better. I even had another go on the Gibson just in case it was me, but no it still sounded s**t. I was really disappointed as I fancied a Gibson. Spoke to the guy in the shop about the sound of the Gibson and Martin and he said all the guys in the store prefer to play the Farida guitars as they sound better. He said we've had Taylor's in to and they don't sound as good as the Farida's.
Went to another store and tried a Takamine, can't remember the model number but it was about £850, this to was a lot better than the Gibson and Martin I tried. Whilst there I also tried a Yamaha AC3R which was just under £700. I was really impressed with this. It sounded good strummed or finger picked, but the guys in the shop thought the Takamine sounded better.
Upto now it could either be the Yamaha or the Farida, but still couldn't help feeling a bit disappointed that the Gibson or the Martin didn't sound as good as the Yamaha, Takamine or the Farida, especially as I've got this money burning a hole in my pocket. Will keep looking, thinking of a Taylor or a Guild now.

I to have been considering one of these and would be interested in any comments especially regarding the neck profile. I haven't got very big hands and have heard that gibson necks can be quite chunky.
