Technically brilliant, but not really something I really enjoyed. A little bit too self-indulgent and not really any connection with anyone watching at all.

Thank you so much everyone, I didn't think this would be so poplar. I have had a listen to all suggestions, and what an amazing wide range of sounds is present. Genuinely interested here in seeing what sort of music you all aspire to, I find it fascinating, so many thanks to all

Apologies if this thread has already been done.
I am really interested in seeing what you other members aspire to play, because we are obviously all at a different level skills-wise, yet I'm sure we all have that one elusive piece that we wish we could master.
For me, it's 'Never Going Back Again' by Lindsey Buckingham, not only is it such a beautiful sound, it is way past my ability at the moment, yet it's songs like this which keep me going in my quest to become the player I want to be. I definitely WILL be able to play it one day, I am so determined to, but I won't attempt it quite yet until I have mastered the songs I can 'sort of' play at the moment.
So, which songs or pieces of music are out of your reach at the moment, but maybe one day you (like myself) are determined to be able to play ??
In case you don't know the song :

Isn't part of the skills you learn, the actual tuning and memorising new tunings ?
Sort of takes away part of the skill for me, and for that reason, am oooot !

I don't know this gentleman, but just thought I would post up to see what you ladies & gents thought.
This French (I think) gent has some great original interpretations of songs, and although not a 'perfect' player by any standard, still has a certain 'something' that keeps me going back to watch his videos time after time.
An example :

That genuinely made me go WOW The gentleman has an exquisite light touch but the sound from that is just incredible.

I really loved Logic, but when it went MAC-only a few years ago it was out of my reach.
I tried a few, and surprised myself by really liking the way FL Studio 11 works. I think you can get newer versions now, but although it is a little different from Cubase/Ableton/Logic/etc it is actually just as good as any yet seems to be a lot cheaper.

It certainly looks to be of a very high standard quality construction. Nice to see a different colour top too !

Thank you for sharing that Nigel, Obviously a brilliant player, but the guitar does indeed have a beautiful warmth.

Just wondered if anyone had played or even owns one of these ?
I don't know the owner personally, and I certainly haven't posted to plug his builds in any way. I came across the place as I deliver to a shop in Alford, Lincs, twice a week, and I actually park outside to have my morning tea break/snack lol ! I thought it was an interesting building, like an old church, and then noticed a battered sign advertising his name. So I googled and saw he has a website, with some very nice gypsy jazz style guitars...
www.johnlevoiguitars.co.uk/
I have never played on anything like those, but am fascinated as to what they sound like.

Leo, I think the first album 'Basket of Light' would be a great place to start, it seems to have that 'feeling' they were all really 'together' and the enthusiasm shines through the tracks (in my opinion). Obviously the guitars from Bert & John are just fabulous, but the double bass (Danny Thompson) is sublime, not to mention Jacqui's voice is just so pure at this stage of her career. Terry Cox also has a great 'swing' to his drumming on this one, but that said he always sounds great to me. There is an excellent 3 X CD set I got a while ago called 'Pentangling' which has most of their best versions in one place if you can find that anywhere. It also has a lot of solo stuff from Bert & John though, which you may already have ?

I'm guessing there has already been a thread posted somewhere in the backlog, but rather than drag up an old thread again .......
Just wondered how popular these are with members ? I only really 'discovered' Pentangle about 6 years ago, as I started to listen to a lot more Folk/Blues/Jazz then, and I am still overwhelmed when I watch their live performances. I just wish I had discovered them many years ago, when they were in their prime. It is a shame that some members are not with us anymore, but I think their music as a group will survive forever, simply because of the quality. I am determined to try and keep their music 'alive' in my own way, by learning to play their songs if I can, and also Bert's solo music too. I can't get anywhere near even starting to learn 'Black Water Side' yet lol, but I'm just about getting the hang of 'One For Jo' at the moment. There is a YouTube contributor, called 'Old Picker' who appears to be a French gentleman, and has managed to cover many Pentangle tunes just solo on his acoustic guitar, and this inspires me greatly. I am a huge music fan, of all types, and have spent years searching for new-old music to listen to, yet in all the searching I have still not found anything that can really compare to Pentangle. I do quite like Fairport Convention, Caravan, and many other 'Folky' sounding bands but still keep coming back to Pentangle. My tastes include the lighter side of prog rock (Traffic etc), and range as far as electronic music too (I was a DJ for many years, and the acid house-to-rave '88-'93 scene was a big part of my life). Do Pentangle stand out as much with you other members, as they do for me ? I just never get bored of listening to them, and on this miserable wet and cold Sunday morning, I have just played 'fresh as a sweet Sunday morning' and it has blown me away yet again - I love Bert's solo music too, and although I think John Renbourn could possibly be 'technically' better, I personally enjoy Bert's singing and playing a lot more. I hope this subject hasn't already been 'done-to-the-death' on here, I only went back a few pages in the old threads.

Interesting thread, I have only been back playing for a year. When I played for 12 years previously, I seemed to learn to 'half play' 100's of songs, but never really stick with any one song long enough to master playing it. I stopped playing for 10 years and took it up again a year ago. This time I had a definite idea of what I wanted to play. I have only tried learning about 6 new songs in the past year, but these are songs I really love, and am determined to master, and I think this has helped me to overcome the 'familiarity breeds boredom' thing. I have concluded that I may never be able to play these exactly as my 'heroes' do, so I have set my own standard of satisfaction and level to achieve, and if I am happy with it, that is the only thing that matters.
