So I was looking for new music to check out earlier & seemed to come up blank on the kind of stuff I was in the mood for - something new in an acoustic fingerpicking or slide vein. All the lists of recommendations I came across came up heavy on the blues-rock.
I can find plenty of new music I like in the Americana genre, but it seems odd to me, as a blues obsessive, that I can't find new blues to my taste.
So please fire me some recommendations - who's out there that I'm missing that's worth checking out?

I use a DPA copy from Thomann which is surprising good. The mount does fall off, but I made a securing strap out of velcro which holds it (the mount) in place prefectly. I use it less since I got the rare earth blend, but it's a good back up on other instruments. This: Ovid DPA type copy
I have one of these, but I have found it's tendency to move mid show to be somewhat frustrating. I'm edging towards a Beta 57A, & thinking that if I combine that with the signal from the AKG contact mics I've been using that should give me a more natural sound whilst working within the limitations of the kind of venues I play.

A friend of mine owns a 'Josephine' we used recently to record a show for a live album. It sounds great, but I was thinking of something potentially a little less delicate for the kind of gigs I play.

Have you thought about using the Fishman Rare Earth blending (or Vandem pickup)? These always sound very good to me. Thought about it, but they won't fit on an archtop.... I have also wondered whether it would be possible to fit a K & K to the back of the soundboard and run the cable out through an F hole, but I'm not up to that level of keyhole fiddliness. There's nothing stopping me putting any of these my second guitar, a 1972 Yamaha FG300, of course, other than a reluctance to drill holes in it for fear of changing the acoustic tone & the fact that while I'm miking up one, I may as well mic up the other.

My ongoing quest for 'real' acoustic sound has reached the point now where I'm edging towards trying miking up on stage.
I wondered if anyone else is miking an acoustic on stage & if so what mic(s) are you using? How is it for feedback & what's it like trying to be heard over a noisy crowd?
Also does anyone know what I type into google to find one of those slightly shorter adjustable boom stands that sound guys use for guitars and snare?

i I think that might be a bit out of my budget! I'm prepared to go to £1000-£1200 for 3/4 days... Drop them a line they might well be able to sort you out a smaller room. A friend of mine did some engineering in the main room there last year & I was surprised at how little his employer was being charged.

A GS Mini isn't silly money so I'd be tempted to just string it up and play it for a while and see if it gets worse. After all it's worth nothing anyway if you can't use it.
Also if it's there on both sides but near invisible and not moving could it be possible that it's a previous repair? A friend of mine recently got a mandolin with a similar injury back after it was fixed and the repaired version looked much like your pictures (the unrepaired version had a big ugly crack you wouldn't have missed...).

On no! That's no good at all. Be interesting to hear if IK agree replace it under warranty. They should I think as that sounds like normal use. I must admit it didn't occur to me to try and wrangle a new one under warranty - I just ordered a replacement mic from IK Multimedia. It was about €40 + tax + P&P.

It would appear predictions of delicacy are all too true. I was demo-ing a song yesterday & the lead from the mic to the unit got snagged on my jeans

I think mine has D'addario EJ17s on at present - I did use Roto Grey electric strings for a long time (on all my slide instruments electric & acoustic) & I'm inclined to agree with your friend that they work well. One of the issues I've found with phosphor bronze on a reso is you end up with a lot of scratch
I have some D'addario Flat top 'resonator' gauge kicking about to try out at some point, but I haven't got around to putting them on yet.

I've been asked by a venue to provide PAT certificates for a gig in July. I'm just wondering if anyone is familiar with the rules on what needs tested or not?
The government guidelines say anything with a plug counts as a 'portable appliance', but that would presumably mean that cabs, mics etc wouldn't need tested as they're running off a powered mixer?
Likewise a battery powered busking amp would presumably be exempt?
