That's a great sound Dave! Exactly how I like to hear an OM - not nasal like a bouzouki, not jangly like a 12-string guitar, but a full and "growling" sound of its own. Excellent - & congratulations to Keith!

Leo, Rob and Joe - thanks. Yes I'm pretty pleased with the sound and think it will be a nice instrument. It may require Keith playing around a bit with string gauges until he finds what suits him best. At the moment it has 14, 22w, 32 and 49 on it. Having a wound second string really helps when it's tuned to A and you get that slightly odd sound to it with unwound ones -"Fangorn" the Harp Baritone guitar that Mark T has has a wound second string that works really well. For the neck I should have done my usual thing of leaving it in the white and playing it strung up for a while and make any adjustments to the profile before finishing. Anyway, back to the drawing board and out with the scraper: It's back on CBM and feels much better - just some slight tweaking to do around the first couple of frets. Then the neck can be resprayed. Keith should be a happy new owner on Saturday.

OK - here's another soundclip for the archive, a day into CBM' "life". This is GDAD no Capo, single strigs, strum and then Martin Simpson's "Air for Maurice Ogg" agaim recorde into a Zoom H4n in Stereo mode with no EQ adjustments or effects added: "Air for Maurice Ogg"

What a majestic sound! Strings sounding nicely balanced now. Clear top, grunty bottom, airy middle. Sooooo-bloody-perb!! Thanks so very much Dave.

Mark - thanks. It's been a hard day's night - or at least it seems that way. CBM is all back together with a newly profiled neck. Last jobs were to make an adapted truss rod adjuster )a la Kostal) and a green baize backed piece of Colombian Rosewood to put under the tailpiece when changing strings: I made and added another compartment to the top of the case: And here's how CBT finally looks: Tommorrow Keith gets CBM, I get CBT back from Keith and James Daubney gets "Samhradh" - what larks

Wow! At least I have plenty of exciting things to think about tonight whilst not getting to sleep because of the heat!! Thanks for the extra refinements Dave - the case compartment was definitely above and beyond etc, but looks excellent!! See you tomorrow. Keith

I have just collected it today - and it is everything I could have wished for in sound, feel and looks. More later, as I'm a bit busy wearing out the strings on it just now!! Keith

Wow, that was quick - how exciting. Looking forward to hearing more.
Busy day for you Dave, you'll need a rest now after all that time in your shed... too hot down there I imagine now. Jonny

Here are some pics (courtesy of Dave) from today's handover of CBM, which we accomplished at the same time as presenting James ( jwdaubney) with the competition guitar, and returning CBT mandolin to Dave for a quick fettle before it goes to Paul ( scorpiodog). Multitasking!! The handover - - first play! Some CBM-CBT family photos - Hopefully more pics before too long, and, eventually, some music!! Yay! Keith

Wow! That is such a beautiful looking mandola. I hadn't realised until seeing it in Keith's (very large) hands just how enormous that neck is. All told this is just my sort of instrument. I'm going to have to think of an excuse to go and visit Keith over the summer to have a look, Robbie

Nice photos! Keith is this you playing CBM, or are you playing CBT after imbibing the contents of a small bottle labelled "Drink Me"?:
