Nice photos! Keith is this you playing CBM, or are you playing CBT after imbibing the contents of a small bottle labelled "Drink Me"?: Curiouser and curiouser.... Keith

I know this is a 'thing' of mine, but may I just say how much I like the classic, clean lines of that there headstock..

.... the classic, clean lines ..... Rather like your good self Leo!! Used CBM in yesterdays church service, plugged in with the band, to lead one of the songs. Sounded really good and was v easy and comfortable to play. Caused quite a bit of interest soundwise and appearance-wise and had some interesting conversations afterwards. eg variations on "What a lovely sounding instrument. A nice change" (ie they don't like my guitar playing!) and one cosy oldish lady even said, astutely, "What's that? It looks like a giant mandolin!" (yes, that was the plan!) Can't say fairer than that. Once there's a bit of shade in the garden I'll get out there and take some pics. Keith

Very nice photographs Keith, and super workmanship, Dave! The wooden stand is also very very I haven't really listened to it yet, but will check the clips when I can. I wondered what you thought of the soundport, Keith and what differences you think it makes for this instrument?

Thanks chaps - Dave has done a splendid job - it looks better than in the pics, which mostly look a bit "flat" because of the light. But all the woods and colours go together beautifully. The grain on the Colombian rosewood is fab, and the rosette, headstock and purflings all tie in superbly well.
The soundport is well worth it - just as in Dave's guitars!
(The stand is a foldy uppy Cooperstand, which I like a lot!)

I'm desperately trying to find something about this damn instrument that I don't like ... but the only thing I can think of is "I don't like that it's not mine".
Bugger.

More nice photos, thanks for posting Keith; another successful De Faoite build! Thanks for the closeup of the tailpiece too. I was trying to work out the spacing when 12 is divided by 8 so you've saved me a bit of mental arithmetic!
I was surprised you chose Spruce for the top as I had gathered from previous posts that you were fond of cedar, may I ask why you chose it for this one?

Thanks Joe. Spruce? Well I just fancied a change, esp for an octave mando - worked out well, very well! I loved the sound of spruce topped CBT, which, as you remarked , was pretty mellow, for a spruce top, and the idea of CBM was to be similarish sounding...and it is! Keith

Here's a quick and dirty video recording of a 16th Century French dance tune (then used as a New Year carol) but now more often heard as a Christmas carol arranged for choir etc. I've tried to recapture the dance feel with my sparse arrangement of it in GDAD tuning. The audio was via Zoom H2, flat eq and no effects. Audio only link - app.box.com/s/sbah7v3okjahi5gble57 Keith

Nicely done Keith. I love French Dance tunes and I haven't heard that one before. CBM sounds really good
