Body and neck are now ready to be mated, so I take out my most complex jig, and accurately clamp it to the guitar.
This allows me to drill the holes for the bolts.
Next using a router and a guide I rout the pocket in stages until I get the correct depth.
Next I put two transfer markers into the holes and press the neck in place
I can then drill the neck heel and install the bushes, the are screwed and glued into place.
The neck can then be attached to the body and the heel cheeks flossed to fit. This will be finessed once the fingerboard is attached.

Well the OM has now got its fingerboard. I prepared a bog oak fingerboard radiused, slots cut and the bone markers set in, I hope at the correct frets. Time to nail it on. I realised I only had the three nails and I need them for the 336 so I glued it on with fish glue. The neck was given its final shaping to my preferred profile and and it'll soon be time to put the frets on. Colin

No slots? An improvement I say :-) Yep , no slots, I had a spare set of flathead tuners so went that way. Of course you are wrong, slots are far better.

You just simply can't beat the classic OM shape (or something very close to it) in my opinion. Whilst I do like some of the more modern pointy curvy shapes such as the cutaway Taran for example whenever I see a guitar like this it shoots right to the heart of my sensibilities. The flat headstock is very nice too Phil

Phil, this is the first guitar shape I ever built, when I made it specifically for DADGad, I had to make it as I had sold my Martin OM to Martin.

A very handsome looking guitar and the fretboard markers are a nice touch both elegant and understated

Looking fabulous Colin. Can’t wait for the April Fools Day update Your wish is my command.
I have applied the finish to the OM, for the two guitars I have under construction I decided to apply a different finish from my normal, after getting a lot of advice from Dave I went with a pre-cat lacquer. I put together a small spray booth and after a bit of practice on some scrap I got out the HVLP sprayer and went at it.
After spraying and sanding back I think I have achieved a nice old furniture sheen, which is what I was aiming to get.
Next job is to make the Bog oak bridge.

That finish really enhances the grain.just right amount of "shiney-ness" Vinny

Hi Colin, the spray finish looks spot on. I also keep admiring the back of the headstock, ie the way it transitions to the neck, something similar to what i would like to achieve on number 2.
BTW, could i ask, when you come to take the finish off to apply the bridge, would you be able to show how you approach this please? I am curious to how this is done.
Many thanks
Andy
