Is the benefit of this model in its simplicity and that it is best to rely on the PA / amp to manage the sound, rather than adding less quality components from the pickup? Would buying a pickup with a volume and tone of reasonable quality be substantial more in cost and installation complexity? Many thanks as always. Andy Choice of pickup is a very personal thing. I use K&K on most of my guitars because they sound ok, don't cost a lot, and have no batteries to replace. For folk clubs and open mics etc I rely on the PA man to get a decent sound but I do ask them to turn down the mid EQ a little bit. For a gig I use an Orchid preamp. Iain Wot Iain said! But you can get an easily fitted K&K passive tone/vol add on for the K&K, just plugs in and the mini pots stick inside the soundhole. Could be useful as an "on/off" control but I doubt the tone control adds a lot, prob just a simple treble cut. Also more junk inside the guitar, partly negating the K&K simplicity. I stick with the straightforward unit and use external tone shaping if required. Like Iain I often use an Orchid acoustic preamp, occasionally a Baggs Padi, and carry a Boss eq pedal which works fine as an emergency backup. Keith

I’ve fitted half a dozen or so of these, one with volume control. The volume control is only useful as an on/off switch as anything between full and no volume introduces hiss. Vinny

Colin, that is lovely. you might not like flat headstocks as much, but you really do create a nice looking one! Cannot wait to hear it!
