Next two spruce stiffeners are glued to the sides at the top of the hollow neck using fish glue. These will also serve as liners to glue the top onto: Next the 8mm carbon fibre tubes are glued into the rear of the peghead and into side braces that are glued to the sides of the hollow neck: The stiffeners were notched for spruce lateral braces which are now glued in:

As the proud owner of a Dave White lap slide guitar my 'Red Kite', the only guitar I can play now, I can tell you all that this will sound superb. Some of you may remember that Dave kindly offered to make the Red Kite for me after I suffered an accident which resulted in me losing the top joint on three fingers of my left hand, putting my 45 years of guitar playing to a end. An act of pure kindness from a good friend. Mind you at 60 he's only a wee bairn. Colin

Colin,
It was a pleasure to make it for you and I still love playing "El Levantine".

Colin Sorry to hear about your accident Colin and the guitar does looks very nice indeed from the photo At one time I had severe left wrist problems and I thought the lap slide would be the way to go. Dave to the rescue though and things look good Phil

I thought you might like to see the back of the Red Kite that Dave made me. Every time I look at it I still smile. Colin

Some more progress - the back and top plates have been jointed (not an easy task with such long lengths) and joined using the "tent" method and hot hide glue:

My standard rosette design these days is a central ring of the same wood as the back/sides flanked by inner and outer purfling rings using the same purfling as on the rest of the instrument. So let's do that here. First route out the inner and outer purfling rings using the circle cutting jig: Then glue in double rings of black/ pear/ black purflings using pva glue: When the glue dries scrape/sand back flush: Note how the central English Walnut ring's grain perfectly matches the top - how clever is that I love it when a plan comes together

I was just wondering, Dave, could you put up a sound clip showing us how to pronounce your model names?
