I'm looking forward to hearing this, and seeing it under a finish, it will look spectacular!

The Bog Oak fingerboard is marked for the frets and the slots cut in this jig: The rope binding frets are then glued in using fish glue: The fingerboard is then tapered and the Bog Oak bindings are then glued on using fish glue: 5mm holes for the position markers are drilled: The MoP markers are glued in using fish glue – two are left so that the fingerboard can be positioned on the body for gluing using wooden dowels: The Bog Oak nut is made and then the fingerboard is positioned on the body and the holes drilled through for the dowels: The end of the fingerboard is routed to match the soundhole curve: The wooden dowels are glued into the fingerboard and the remaining two MoP fret markers glued in: The Bog Oak bridge blank is sanded on the top to match the top’s curvature: The bridge slot is then routed using this jig: The rear of the bridge is ramped and the bridge-pin holes drilled: The bridge-pin holes are then counter-sunk: The rest of the bridge is shaped and the bridge carefully positioned on the top. The outer two bridge-pin holes are drilled through:

Looking really good Dave, it's really nice to see a build coming together that I've never attempted myself. I must really persuade someone that they can't possibly live without a lap slide. (More Hurdy Gurdy displacement!)

Droolsome, Dave. What's the little un propped up at the back on the Justin pic? Keith Thanks. The little 'un is a concert sized uke that won't be ready in time for HB4. There will be another "surprise" instrument there though Looking really good Dave, it's really nice to see a build coming together that I've never attempted myself. I must really persuade someone that they can't possibly live without a lap slide. (More Hurdy Gurdy displacement!) Colin Thanks - you'd have fun making one but I'd love to see the Hurdy Gurdy first. Is the paint* still going to be wet when you get this to Halifax, Dave? Cutting it fine, lad *egg white, whatever! Funny you should mention that. On with the paint - eggy wash first The back and sides are then pore filled using egg white – 240 grit sandpaper is dipped into the egg white and sanded on the back and sides to make a wood slurry that is pushed into the pores. The egg white acts as a binding agent and the pores are effectively filled by the same wood dust: Then the pre-catalysed lacquer coats are sprayed on: The position for the bridge is scribed and the lacquer carefully removed: Then the bridge is glued on using hot hide glue: The fingerboard is then glued onto the body using fish glue:

Well Cinderella did make it to the ball (aka HB4) . . . just The label was signed and glued in: Setting up the instrument involved fitting the Gotoh tuners and nut to the neck, reaming and slotting the bridge pin holes, fitting the bone saddle, and fitting the strings. There's no messing around with nut and saddle height There's still work to do polishing out the finish and a few respray bits here and there but here's how it looks: And for scale here's "An Torman Mòr" next to my more 'normal' sized "Red Kite": I made this recording on "An Torman Mòr" this morning in Bb F Bb Bb F Bb tuning (same intervals as DADDAD) straight into my Zoom H4n with no added effects. I'll post it on The Plucky Duck section here too with more background about the piece. "Where Worlds Collide there are Mountains"
