I've been working on some smaller (relatively) parts this week: Fretboard, building up the neck and squaring it up ready to cut slots for the truss rod and carbon stiffners. The MoP fret markers need tidying up a little before I can fit them into the rosewood fretboard. Now the weather is settling down a little I can restart work on the soundboard: Rosette first, then the internal bracing layout and bending/laminating the actual braces.

Mmmm. Bugg** broke a tool bit cutting MoP. 0.4mm cutting well then the sound changed.... Ordered 2 more just in case! Change tack and cut the quarter inch and 4mm slots in the neck blank seems I'm a bit heavy handed this morning.

Araldite, WD40, and Gaffa tape. That'll see you all right, Francis.

Working on the soundboard at present. The rosette panels (flame jarrah) have been inlayed along with some black/white/black thin lines and the whole face given a light sanding to level things off. The internal woodwork has been started with the brace laminations being pre bent with a hot pipe/iron (these are currently drying out). Once they've dried out fully they will be bonded together to form a spruce/mahogany/spruce sandwich against their respective formers.

I'm not yet convinced by the look of most asymmetric/incomplete rosettes but that one does look extremely good francis . Keith

The soundboard bracing. The primary curved braces have been fitted a few days ago. They spent 24 hrs under go bar pressure waiting for the resin to fully cure. They were then partially shaped taking them from full depth across the bridge plate tapering to feathered ends with a smooth curve. The photo shows the secondary braces have been added these too will stay under pressure for 24 hrs before being shaped although their shapes will more radial taller towards the centre of the body and tapering outwards. The upper bout harmonic bar has yet to be added. Unlike all the other braces which are curved to a 20 foot radii matching the soundboard dome, this is flat. But it will be arched to bridge the ends of the longer curved primary braces which pass underneath it. (The block at the top end with the double go bar rods on it is not part of the bracing it was the to initially hold the soundboard in place before other parts were added and pressure applied elsewhere)

Secondary bracing in position and partially shaped. The bracing forms a ribbed 'dome' like structure (see end view photo) highest over the bridge plate and can be seen to taper away to the tips of each brace.

I’m like a dog watching a conjuror, Francis. I may not understand it but I’m very excited.

I do like that end view photo --- looks very architectural and reminds me of parliament house in Canberra, Australia...

It's a shame that much of the lovely construction details are hidden inside the guitar. Fantastic francis !
