Sides were bent yesterday and left in the former to dry overnight, I thank colin for his mention of the veneer softner in the expensive wood thread. That helped with the very curly grain on the flamed jarrah sides. Initially they looked quite patchy from the softening solution but a light sanding this morning has removed any staining. The back plate was also joined yesterday and that has been trimmed oversize and thicknessed this morning down to 2.8mm, still has a good ring when taped. The alpine soundboard is currently curing and I'll take a look at that next week. Photos of the back plate and the sides having been trimmed to length and placed back in the former.

The flame jarrah looks wonderful...nice that you plan to use that for the rosette and headstock facing too...should give it a very "together" and classy look.

Whatever the collective noun is for Milsom guitars - e.g a skill, artistry or seduction - you are one lucky doc, doc. A truly stunning instrument.

Isn’t it. I must be patient. I’m sure it will be worth the wait. Mine arrived today and we’re just getting acquainted but I’m very happy so far.

Today has seem me cutting thin strips of mahogany from an old cabinet shelf for the linings. These have been thickness' to 2mm, sprayed with water and hot bent to shape. Then placed against a former to retain their shape whilst they dry out. Once dry they will be sanded and glued together. Each lining will be made up of three laminations. The inside edge will be rounded over and when fitted to the side it will sit just proud so it can be sanded to either a 20 foot or 15 foot radius (front and back radii respectively). Sides have been cut down in height and then planed and sanded to either a 15 ft or 20 ft radius against a sanding dish.

Linings have now been fitted to the sides (ribs), left proud of the upper edges to allow for shaping to match the curved profiles of the soundboard and back plate surfaces. Side reinforcements will be added next followed by the two end blocks (neck and tail).
