As I gradually 'migrate' from the 'other' forum (which may be gone anyway) I thought I would put this on here for continuity....
Since buying a cheap 12 fret slotted headstock Farida last year I have been struck buy the comfort of the size and shape. With having a dicky left wrist little things like the slotted headstock tuner button positions and the fact that the nut is nearer to me all make a difference. The Farida is not great but will be taken to and left at my bolthole in Spain at some point where the climate won’t affect the laminates that much (good excuse eh?). In view of this I have decided to order a custom guitar from Simon and Andy at Brook Guitars to replace it whilst keeping my Torridge also.
My first love was Martin guitars so there are a few items which acknowledge this with a gentle ‘tip of the hat’ whilst hopefully not departing too much from the Brook aesthetic and certainly not from the construction which will be 100% Brook :
Body Size/Model – standard 12 fret ‘Lyn’ with cutaway.
Scale - 24 ¾ “
Back/Sides – mahogany with some figuring and a sound port on upper bout.
Top Wood Choice - European Spruce.
Body Binding/Purfling – snakewood with additional simple strips of purfling.
Neck - one piece mahogany with 44mm wide nut to match my Torridge,
rather than the standard 45mm for a Lyn.
Fingerboard - Ebony with no position markers other than at 12th fret which will be a simple ‘Martin style 12 fret snowflake’ jobby as a ‘nod’ to my first favourite guitar maker.
Bridge - ebony ‘pyramid’ style with abalone dot ebony bridge pins
Rosette – abalone with simple black/white/black edge
Headstock - Standard Brook slotted headstock with ebony faceplate and ‘new style’ Brook logo.
Tuning Machines - Single Waverly’s (not 3 on a plate) with snakewood buttons.
All my previous guitars bar one briefly owned Martin OM21 and my current rosewood Torridge have been mahogany and I think I do prefer the mahogany sound so I have gone for that.
I placed the order before Xmas and Simon has quoted me 8 months starting in March/April
Regards
Phil
