As I alluded to above, the guitar was back on sale, at a reduced price, with a hint of urgency about it. Against grayn's advice (sorry!), I was interested. My lovely wife encouraged me to go for it again, so I made another offer and a price was agreed upon (a fair bit less than the previously agreed sum I might add ). I went to see the guitar on Saturday and it was everything the owner said it was, absolutely mint condition, stunning workmanship and THAT paint job/binding It is a Fender (Japan) Telecaster '62 Reissue in Candy Apple Red (TL62B). So, I now have a matching pair of sexy guitars, both for a very good price. To account for this mid-life madness, I have put a number of other instruments up for sale, and have already parted company with my Yamaha classical on Saturday afternoon.

Is that the mid-life crisis over now? They both look fabulous, and I must say I'm a bit jealous!

They both look fabulous, and I must say I'm a bit jealous! Dunno Ross. Hopefully. I've liked that tele for a couple of years since I first saw one when I got lost in the wrong part of a guitar shop, but I didn't think I'd ever get one because I'm so now. That's why I think this is a MLC, but thankfully not a stupid one. Wanna buy a banjo?

Congrats Martin. And I'm definitely not one to give advice on getting guitars. My GAS makes me unreliable.
Anyways, that's a lovely pair you have. All you need now, is a semi.
Love binding on a tele, it really makes it so much cooler. Why not give us your impressions of the differences between your 2 electrics.

Thanks Michael, but the amp I got is more than enough just now I think a semi might be pushing it, Graham but you never know! The binding combined with the colour is what attracted me to this tele, combined with the cool shape. Without going into any real detail as I have only limited experience of each guitar, I can make the following comparisons between the two guitars: The shape of each guitar, while being quite different, appeal to me equally. They're both gorgeous IMO, and the red colour/paint job is fantastic. The offset style of the Jaguarillo and its smooth, curvy lines contrast nicely with the more conventional style of the tele, which is classy, but also jumps out at you with the help of the binding. Both guitars are pretty heavy, and seem to be extremely well made, very solid and with superb finishing. There is no evidence of any glue, sloppy paintwork or gloopy varnishing here. The necks are almost identical in profile and feel, although the tele has a 7.25" radius, but it makes no difference to me. The shorter scale of the Jaguarillo should make it easier to play, but again, they both feel very playable. The Jaguarillo has black plastic vol/tone knobs whereas the tele has heavy steel knurled knobs, which I do prefer. The single biggest difference so far I have found is in the pickups and their output. The tele pickups seem to be very low output, low volume, and although the tone is nice, they are quiet compared to the Jaguarillo. It on the other hand has very high output pickups, especially the humbucker which is a Fender Atomic, and makes this guitar into a real metal machine with the overdrive gain cranked right up. I think I might be able to improve the tele pickups by adjusting their height a little, as they sit very low indeed just now.

Wanna buy a banjo? No. I've already got one!! It sits on it's stand waiting for people to say "I didn't know you played the banjo"! However, I am going to buy an electric. I'm thinking a PRS SE model, I'm just confused about the amp situation

Mate, you need a Strat. Kym You know, I've never fancied a Strat. Even now, with a couple of Fenders, I still don't really like the shape. Wanna buy a banjo? No. I've already got one!! I'm thinking a PRS SE model, I'm just confused about the amp situation Excellent choice, although I have to say the Fender Jaguarillo is also a stonking guitar for the money (if you buy from GuitarGuitar) . I tried a few amps before getting the one I ended up with. The only problem is that it is quite large, but then as it's a 'stack', it doesn't take up a great deal of floor space - it just looks big 'cos of the height.

Your stack set up looks very loud though? Would I want something like that just for house play? Is there a combi amp that has got some decent effects that I could play without disturbing my tired and pregnant missus, but would go up to 11 as soon as she's out the door??

It's up to you...it's only 5W, but it does get loud on the overdrive channel, but then I just use the volume knob to adjust it There's loads of decent combi amps available - it might depend on your budget, but I was looking for a 'small valve amp' and ended up with the HT-5. You could buy the HT-1 combi. It's valve and cheaper/quieter than the HT-5. You could also get a Vox AC4 or Fender Champion 600 or Gretsch G5222, all small valve amps. If you want a modelling amp (with loads of effects), I think the Fender Mustang might fit the bill. Oh, and by the way....congratulations!!!

Thanks for the tips If I get a valve amp, does than mean I need pedals for effects, or do they come with some on board? And thanks for the congrats
