Maybe, it depends which amp you go for. Some are part valve (pre-amp stage) too, so there's quite a selection.
The modelling amps can be good for a wide range of sounds.

It's all very confusing. I think I'd prefer a valve amp, but would it sound a bit gay having a 1w amp??

I'm off to that there London in a couple of weeks time, so I might venture down to the fabled Denmark Street and see if there is anything.

I know size isn't everything, but I think I'd like an amp that couldn't fit in my pocket!! It does look cool though... This looks more like it

Smoke on the Water or Stairway to Heaven Guitar shop staff LOVE IT when customers come in and play these classics If you're feeling frisky, try Sweet Child O' Mine, a more modern masterpiece

Thed Fender Mustang combos sre good, for not a lot of cash. No valves but plenty of effects, that are easy to access/use.
What electric are you after, Rodders?

I'm leaning towards one of the PRS SE models, but I'm open to suggestions. I definitely prefer the Les Paul style shapes, and it has to make me look hard AND cool.

Rodders: If you want to look cool and hard, it's gotta be one of these: Hagstrom Tremar P90 Ibanez AR720FM
