Thanks leo. Being simple myself, I could not agree more. Your effort is excellent by the way. Something to aspire to. Very kind of you to say so! First time I've ever tried to actually write a choon - and do something in open tuning whilst I was at it, too. Hence it lasts about 60 seconds I haven't worked out where to put my fingers in standard tuning, so any alternative tuning is a bit of mystery!

Very nice entry from David Hutton - that's a good sound you're getting from your new Zoom, David!

Two more entries - good stuff! A first effort from David Hutton, wow - I'd never have guessed it was so - keep writing, David - nothing wrong with short and simple - came over very well, nicely recorded, and lovely use of that maj7 chord. Wild Violet - Good to hear the results of you writing something personal, Lynn - fine song, delivered very Lynnfully - top stuff. I'm going to have to get down to some serious effort on this competition soon..... Keith

Wild Violet. Beautiful song, Lynn. You've a lovely (and distinctive) voice and a very recognisable, signature, guitar style. Loved the song. Good luck.

Great song from Wild Violet. I love the banjo-like accompaniment, works really well with the song.

Like waiting for a bus, nothing for a time then two turn up at once! David - really like the melodic lines from the guitar in "Please". The guitar arrangement fits the mood of the song very well. I see you suffer from that lack of faith in your own singing / voice that so many of us have - I don't think there's a cure (someone let me know if there is one). Not wordy can be good - and it works very well here. It's very difficult to tell a story in a few lines and it's a great trick to manage when you can do it. Lynn - wonderful the way you've managed to find so much of a positive nature out of such difficult times. Also wonderful the way you've successfully put that into song and used some fine examples of imagery in the words. The guitar arrangement flows very nicely too. I think there's a very good blend of your voice and your guitars voice. I'm sure that singer-songwriters are influenced in their choice of what makes a good sounding guitar by how well it matches their voice. Best of luck to the two of you. Mark

Can I ask- I'm writing a song for the competition and I'll be playing it, obviously, but can somebody else sing it ? I'm pretty much crap on the ol' vokes. If not, do you award points for bravery ?

It's going to have to be a bid for the bravery points I'm afraid colan! Don't panic - I'm sure your voice is actually better than you think it is. Go for it. Keith

I'd prefer if you sang it yourself, remember this is a composition competition, so the structure of the piece is the important thing. Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Michael Chapman, stellar composers, can they sing?

Ah well, there's an old corset and a winged helmet around here somewhere. I'll have a practice.
