Ah yes I remember it now. I think if I was allowed just one B&S wood, I'd be really torn between mahogany and walnut, interesting though I've built five walnut guitars to one mahogany recently. I say again, Walnut and Lutz, yum.

The Lutz spruce X braces are profiled to a 13’ radius, notched and then glued on one at a time: Then the two A frame braces are glued on: The upper transverse brace is glued on after notching to span the A frame braces and having a hole drilled for the truss rod adjuster:

The linings are notched for the Walnut side braces which are then glued in using hot hide glue: The side soundport is then cut: Then the Walnut brace for the strap pin screw is glued in: The 6mm carbon fibre flying buttress braces are then glued in: The pilot hole for the strap pin is drilled and the strap pin test fitted: Here’s the completed rim set: The Walnut X brace cap is glued on the back braces using hot hide glue: The braces are then profiled and the back “voiced”. Here’s the result: The linings of the rim-set are notched for the ends of the back braces and the back glued on using fish glue:

The Walnut centre strips are glued in using hot hide glue: The brace behind the bridge-plate is then glued on the top: The spruce X brace cap is glued on using hot hide glue: Then the tone bars are glued on: Followed by the finger braces: The braces are carved and the top “voiced”. Then the top is signed and dated: Here’s the “voiced” top: The linings of the rim-set are notched for the ends of the top braces and the top glued on using fish glue:

davewhite - I reckon a translation is needed for the soundboard quote! "Summer, Summer, milk of the calves, We have brought the Summer in. Yellow summer of clear bright daisies, We have brought the Summer in." You can find out more here and here. Plus this of course:

It's great watching these wonderful instruments gradually coming to life, and I've a better appreciation now for the work and skill that goes into a build such as this.

Thanks Martin and Alex. It's time to bind the box. The Macassar Ebony bindings are taped together with the b/w/b purflings: The bindings and purflings are then bent in the Fox-style bender using a heating blanket: Here are the bent bindings and purflings: Then it’s out with “The Scutter” to cut the binding channels. The channels are first cut on the top the width of the linings and the depth of the linings plus side purflings. Some scrap pieces of the side purfling are stuck onto the top at the end graft and cutaway with double-sided tape. The router rides on these to cut the rest of the binding channel. The channels are tidied up with a chisel and the side purflings can be mitred: The process is repeated for the back: Next the router is set to cut the top purfling channels and these are routed out: The long task of making sure that the bindings and purflings fit in the channels and where necessary are mitred comes next. The channels are adjusted accordingly and the top bindings and purflings glued in using fish glue:
