The body is then sprayed with pre-catalysed lacquer. Here’s the back after two coats: Here’s the front:

The position for the bridge is scribed and the lacquer carefully removed: Then the bridge is glued on using hot hide glue:

Setting up the instrument involves fitting the Gotoh tuners and nut to the neck, bolting on the neck, reaming and slotting the bridge pin holes, fitting the bone saddles, fitting the strings and dialling in the desired action and playability by adjusting the neck relief with the truss rod, cutting the nut slots and setting the saddle heights: During the process the neck angle needed to be fine tuned a little and having played it for a while the neck profile just behind the nut needs to be altered slighty. The neck will then be resprayed and any touch ups on the body done at the same time. After that the K&K pickup and strap pin will be fitted together with the clear mylar pickguard and then the label will be signed and glued in. The current plan is for ocarolan and myself to meet up with nikdavies to present "Samhradh" sometime in early to mid November. Watch this space

Thanks guys for the comments and likes. I'm very pleased with this one. I'm looking forward to listening to the first recordings ! Here you go Bernd. This is my version of Steve Baughman's version of Martin Hayes version of "Bony Crossing the Alps" together with my own composition "Raptor Windfall" played on "Samhradh" in DADGAD - what else - with D'Addario EJ24 strings recorded into my Zoom H4N in Stereo Mode, flat EQ and no added effects: "Bony Crossing the Alps / Raptor Windfall"

Fine looking and sounding guitar is that Dave - lovely recording too. A fine addition to the DeFaoite line-up, and a delight, as ever , to see it being built - really appreciate the time and care you take to document so many builds. Keith

Masterpiece of a guitar as usual Dave, with the recognisable De Foite voice. Be interesting to hear what Nik does with it.

Lovely sound from that guitar Dave, looks great as well. I have said this before but I find this guitar most aesthetically pleasing - spot on I have to say that 'Raptor Windfall' is a very good composition. Lovely textures and kept my interest all the way through - excellent Phil

The neck is cut to fit the fingerboard extension hole in the top and the threaded inserts position marked and drilled. The thread inserts are then fitted. The neck is then bolted on and checked for correct alignment: Dave, when you finally assemble the guitar, do you glue the fingerboard to the soundboard, or do you just rely on the bolts through the neck block ?

Keith, Rob, Colin and Iain - thanks.
Phil - thanks. Glad you like the shape and Raptor Windfall.
Craig - no glue, the neck attaches by two bolts.
