Well I said I'd try and get recordings of Samhradh with different people when I got the opportunity so I thought I'd start with me. This is Ralph McTell's "The Setting" played in DADGAD rather than DADF#AD as he does. Recorded into my Zoom H4n guitar and vocals seperately with no EQ adjustments or added effects. Samhradh has a set of D'Addario EJ17's on (12-56): "The Setting"I've put this in "The Plucky Duck" too

I was just on my way over to the Plucky Duck for a bit of a catch up, but I'll listen to this one while I'm here!....................Nice! V enjoyable altogether Dave, and the guitar does sound rather good - looking forward to plucking it! Great start to the Samhradh Showcase Set!

I've commented in the 'Duck', but I'll happily do it here too: What a great sound, Dave! You must be pleased with the way this guitar sounds - it's stunning Of course, the playing quality really helps too - a very nice touch with this, and I thought the little strummy bits before each verse were just marvellous.

While Jonny was here I "forced" him to do a recording on "Samhradh" so here he is playing Phil Keaggy's "Addison's Walk" in DADF#BD tuning, Zoom H4n Flat EQ no added effects: "Addison's Walk"I'll put this on the "Plucky Duck" too on Jonny's behalf.

I keep saying it, so I'll say it again - this guitar sounds incredible, and actually has a different tonal quality in Jonny's hands that is equally fab.
I'm looking forward to reading Mr Moss' comments on how it plays when he gets the chance.

Keagtastic! Beautifully done Jonny, and a super sound from that guitar - wish I were young enough to enter the competition! Was it really recorded from that far away? if so, the sound is, as they say, well good! Keith

Oh, I like that!
what a great tune - and what a great tone.... Did I mention that I'm only 19 and want a career in music?

I just hope a few more young 'uns see it and think "why not have a go?"

I'm back in the grim south of France now... and the highlight of my trip to Blighty was the trip to Dave's, especially putting the Samhradh through its paces. It's a stunning guitar, the Bubinga is very striking.
Tonally it is very powerful with a strong bass and trebles to match, very balanced (how I like 'em). A joy to play, very forgiving and brought a smile to my face. The winner will be a very lucky person indeed.
Thanks for the kind words re the recording... ill prepared and didn't really feel I did it justice, but a pleasure anyway.
Jonny

It surely is, Greg. Dave can answer any other question you have but the competition is still open and will run until around September

Next up on "Samhradh" is Mark Thomson who after cooking us such a fine breakfast on Monday morning kindly allowed me to record him with my Zoom H4n while Keith did the honours with his video camera and spliced the two together. Here's Mark playing his compositions "The Ringing Tune/Hugh Taylor's" in DADGAD. Enjoy : Due to a cock up by the recording producer (i.e. me ) the Zoom recording of Keith playing "Samhradh" got lost somewhere in the ether and the sound quality on the video camera wasn't brilliant so we'll try again on another occasion.
