Top, back and side timbers arrived today so just taking a quick look at them: Alpine spruce top AAA** graded (Timberline):   Quick plane to look at the silking:   Flamed/Curly/Ripple Maple planks: (red outline)    These look quite rough at the moment - However, they will be fine once cleaned up |

looking good, Francis. Do you have a jointer or is it hand tools only? I have a small jointer (though I'm old school and call it an 'overhand planer'  ), it's not wide enough to handle these boards so this will be hand work and looking forward to it as well. I just did a light skim yesterday to see what the woods were like - pretty pleased so far  Today I'll be working on the remaining profile gauges before letting myself loose on the carving. |

I hadn't realised that there was such a marked appearance between 'in the raw' and a simple planing. This is going to be one beautiful looking guitar. |

Few minor issues: Having to return the maple back due to thickness errors (too thin to cover the profile) but Timberline will exchange it for me. Hit a resin pocket in the top timber just as I'm approaching final thickness to start the carving  Hoping to just get away with being able to remove it when I carve the top. Currently just over central thickness for the top so about 1.5 mm still to remove, from its position on the top I can remove about 3 mm when carving. I've measured the depth of the pocket as approx 3 mm so its close - I don't really want to start patching... Couple of images:   Francis |
