Without wishing to stray too far into the land of double entendre.... That looks really hard.
Carving that should give you a nice workout.
Looking good, Francis. Thanks for continuing to share.

Quite a 'bitty' day yesterday - too much non luthier stuff to do, but I did manage to carve the 'f-holes' in the soundboard: Waiting for the narrow decorative lines to go with the lacewood binding before I can progess the soundboard much further. Today I've started blending the domed back curve into the recurve with scrapers - small hump between the two still visible in this photo: TBC...

Outside face of the back plate with a coat of white polish. Few small indents remain from the drilling around the recurve, these will be removed once the box is closed: Next the inner face - aiming for an initial 4.5 - 4.7 mm right across the whole back plate !

Started removing the bulk material from the inside face of the back plate - the remaining lump is where my bench drill doesn't have the clearance needed to cover the whole surface (later removed with a chisel) Side effect of the drilling process for me on this has been some surface bruising to the outer face caused by the pressure on the drill while removing the bulk stock - this was removed with some light sanding - the photo makes it look worse than it really is. For future reference I need to put a longer radius on the support post so pressure is distributed over a larger area, about 1½ inch radius would be just shorter than the recurve radius on this one. Funny how I've never seen any mention of this in books on the subject of drilling out bulk material from guitar plates... I've now started to smooth the inner surface with a squirrel plane and scrapers. TBC...
