I've had a brilliant time over the last couple of days discussing options with Francis [ ever helpful , encouraging and patient!] ...made all the easier with his electronic mock ups. Currently in addition to the beautifully figured yew back and sides plus cedar top I'm vacillating between cocobolo and macassar ebony [both figured] for the the bridge, fingerboard and head veneer ....I think a padauk based rosette with accompanying 12th fret inlay and edge markers would be both functional and add to the aesthetics with either wood.

Tuners arrived today. I thought it might be good to see something physical rather than mock-up's. I have brass barrels for these which will be switched over later.

The tuners are made by Rubner...I retro fitted a [different ] set to my mandocello....following a recommendation by davewhite....super smooth, functional and good looking without denting the credit card too much. Francis has gone ahead and ordered some figured Macassar Ebony for the bridge , fingerboard . head facing and binding...looking forward to seeing this in the flesh!

Back to the build again. Working on the bridge, currently to its outline, further shaping of the wings to come. Also the fretboard with accents in padauk the bridge and fretboard are Macassar Ebony. Again at an outline stage it's thickness and crown curve will be next... TBC...

A few more build photos. The interior: Back plate: Primary and secondary falcate bracing glue-up: Initial shaping of the Falcate bracing. Note the primary and secondary braces are initially shaped before the tertiary braces are added to aid access for small planes: Tertiary braces will now be added with their carbon fibre tow. Last will be the upper harmonic brace which will be arched to allow the long primary braces to pass underneath.

Short story: Photo (above) shows the live back of the YEW/WRC parlour with a segmented marriage strip. All along I've been wanting to see the variegated grain and timber colouration in the yew back plate and desperately wanted to retain as much of the vision as possible. A conventional spruce strip would I felt have covered too much detail. I tried cutting paper shapes mimicking the central lighter area to see if they would be suitable but decided eventually on the rectangular segmented approach. This also gave the opportunity to stagger edges of the rectangles to avoid a hard line along the back plate. I now need to feather the ends of the back braces, a good clean-up, coat with a shellac sealer and close the box. Photos of that will follow (Photobucket willing).
