Acoustic guitars do go to sleep and need playing for a while to wake up. A downside of owning numerous guitars is that’s it’s very difficult to keep up.

The manager of a PMT store near me once told me that he had plenty of bodies but a total lack of grey matter.

I agree totally Chris and newdave The ban symbol was tongue in cheek and intended to be light hearted but clearly some are still shall we say a little touchy about it so I’ll depart and leave you to it….. Hi Phil Phil Taylor , Not so much “touchy” as having to live with the consequences. Our Summer trips away to EU countries in the camper are now limited to the 90 in any 180 day limited stay Schengen rule [as has been the case for citizens of the USA , Australia etc etc for many years]. This year we’ve extended our time away slightly by visiting Serbia and Bulgaria [non Schengen ] on the way. I expect you fly to and from to your Spanish home for relatively short periods so are unaffected by the post Brexit Schengen ruling . Our many European friends find the whole thing completely crazy particularly as they are still able to visit the UK for up to 6 months without a visa. We are often asked what advantages the UK has achieved as a result of Brexit…we are struggling to give any sensible answer. Mis mejores deseos! Andrew and Jane And today the owners of Vauxhall say they’re considering leaving the country because of Brexit. Not a subject to joke about, it’s a self inflicted disaster which has hit anyone involved in the arts particularly hard.

I have about 600 sets of strings so I guess it’s not going to be an issue for a while. The newer bulk 25 set boxes from D’Addario are good because they stay airtight. I was paying £104 for these but they’re now over £140 or were the last time I looked. Still under £6 a set.

Yes I did know that newdave I was being a little mischievous there UK Gov Guidance
I have a property in Spain and I'm actually going there today for a few weeks and I can honestly say that nothing re Brexit has affected us personally which is good. I still say the topic though. I think Brexit has been at best a negative for musicians - even amateurs like me who just want to buy stuff at the best possible price. For some professionals it has been a complete disaster. This is a forum for guitar players. I don't see how there's any benefit to banning discussion of it. If you voted for it and you don't want to see the consequences then just look away. My thoughts entirely.

When an interest group includes working musicians who have been severely affected by political decisions it’s perfectly legitimate to talk about the consequences. Clive Carroll has an Irish passport.

Unfortunately any discussion of the requirements for import from and export to the EU is bound to bring up the B word. Without it there would have been no changes or extra financial liabilities.

Yes Chris, what it means is it is just the same if buying from France, Nederlands or Germany as buying from the USA. Isn't it great (grate) to be so free! Forgive me but I hadn’t noticed I wasn’t free. In fact I was free to play anywhere in 27 countries. Now that’s gone but apparently one day may apply to Australia according to a Tory MP this morning. WOW!!

New or used I believe that you will be charged VAT, Excise duty and a handling charge. If you buy new from a reputable dealer in the EU, they will deduct gtheir local VAT so you pay UK VAT. I have , in the past sold guitars to various parts of the EU, but now, they will have to pay their VAT on whatever they pay you. Ergo, your guitar collection has now lost at least 20% in value. That's what we voted for apparently. Further, many US dealers now refuse to ship stuff to the UK as HMGov now demand that they create a VAT account. Y'know how our Yankee friends like paying tax! Actually it's worse than that. You have to pay VAT on the total of the purchase price + shipping + duty, probably in excess of 25% of what you paid. Previously there was no VAT or duty and shipping was much faster with no documentation required. This also applies to purchases from private individuals as well as retailers. Retailers within the EU and registered for VAT should not charge VAT on exports outside the EU. Some smaller shops don't seem to be quite sure about this. Just another of the amazing benefits of Brexit. (DON"T GET ME STARTED!!)
