Yup I have done, these days I’m either just using a mic or plugging straight into a PA, but I used to (and still do if there’s no PA) use an AER Compact 60, and always used a Baggs Para DI before going into the amp, my only reason - it just sounded better, I got a lot more control on the EQ side of things.

I use just an Edwina for about 80% of my gigs now, always have my preamps etc with me as backup in case the venue has a million mirrors but generally just the Edwina. Love it.

When the Waterloo Guitars hit Brum I remember spending some time playing both the X braced and the ladder braced guitars. I preferred theX brace in the sense that it was more versatile but the ladder seemed more authentic (and no don't expect me to explain that :-) Perhaps, Amit can comment. I think he may have had both! Personal preference here, but I've 3 Waterloo's, a WL-14 ladder, a WL-S (ladder) and a WL-12 mahogany (X braced). My absolute fav is the WL-14, it was an earlier one and has a massive neck, it just sounds incredible to my ears. I tried the X braced version of that guitar too and felt the ladder just had a bit more character, nicer mid-range. I reckon the key to their ladders sounding so good is the overall lightness of their construction.

I had a little Republican resonator for a while that I enjoyed - nowhere near National prices, played well, sold it to a friend who can play it a zillion times better than I, but here’s a little clip I made when I had it (it was meant to be played straight but I used a lap slide capo)

I use a thumbpick with metal fingerpicks exclusively, can't manage without them!

I was once lucky enough to support him - incredible incredible performer. Sadly my guitar has never sounded as good as when he picked on it briefly.

Hi folks I'm playing a few dates over the coming months if anyone fancies coming to say hi - I won't bite, but I can't promise I won't be socially awkward. Cheers Autumn Tour by Amit Dattani, on Flickr

Thanks Amit , it's reassuring to know it's not just me, or that my guitars may not be spontaneously imploding I think I have a dehumidifier in the shed somewhere, and I just ordered those silica gel packs Martin Great stuff, and no probs!

Hey Martin I've been monitoring things this end too - my guitars are incredibly light and prone to slight changes in action with the higher humidity - not a big change, but noticeable for sure. I've got a small dehumidifier which has helped drop things down to around 50-55% (it was hovering around 67%). I had the same thing happen earlier this year, the action came up with the humidity, and after dropping it in the room with a dehumidifier, and popping a few silica gel packets into my guitar case, where my guitars live when not being played, the action came back down again - so in my opinion, I think your guitars will rectify themselves if you manage to drop down that humidity. These are the silica gel packets I've been using - www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B071DDYFNS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 you can 'recharge' them in the microwave. Hope that helps, I don't think you're imagining things but it's certainly reversible. Cheers Amit

I'd pick Paul Curreri - Songs for Devon Sproule. For me, it's the perfect album.
