My main instrument is: probably needing new strings

As mentioned previously, davewhite is building me the above guitar (based on his Lughnasa model). There is trickery to come and explanations about why some things are being done as they are later in the build thread, but for now... The coyote wood sides are thicknessed: then they're bent on the hot pipe thingy (can you tell Dave's not writing this?) And then the trimmed sides are put in the mould.

Congratulations, Leo - looking forward to seeing this one take shape. Is coyote wood the same stuff that Dave used for ocarolan's octave mandolin?

Using a pencil, some masking tape and, I assume, some ruler type thing (or possibly none of the aforementioned but a set square or one of those T shaped things), the Mahogany neck block is marked out. Holes are drilled for the bolts. I'd've just used whatever drill bit I first reached for but I am not Dave. He has insisted that the holes must be the correct size for 7mm bolts. Maybe he can't get hold of 8mm bolts or, maybe, the only drill bit he has is the one for 7mm bolts? We may never know. I was clearly wrong about Dave's selection of available drill bits because, as you can now see, he has subsequently drilled 6mm holes for the carbon fibre flying-buttress rods (say what now?) Actually you can't see - these photos may not be to scale, so you'll just have to take my word for it. I'm a trustworthy chap, right? So we can ascertain that Dave has at least 2 drill bits. Unless, of course, he used the 6mm bit both times but just waggled it around a bit for the 7mm bolt holes. Can you do that? DIY is a mystery to me, let alone luthiery. I'm going to assume that he has 2 drill bits. He may have more - just having 2 seems a bit sparse, to be honest. Dave is very precise in using his G-spot G-clamp (look, I don't know the technical terms for these things, you'll've worked that out from the 'hot pipe thingy in my first post) to cut the slot for the fingerboard extension support. The fingerboard extension support is then glued in using hot hide glue. What is hot hide glue? Is it a hide glue which is hot? Or a glue made from a hot hide (like a cheetah or something)? Frankly, this thread is raising more questions than it answers.

It's comforting to follow the narrative of a cross dressing master luthier nun

I presume that Dave ran out of hot hid glue because he's resorted to attaching the sides to the neck block using fish glue. Does this come from a STICKleback? I don't mind as long as it keeps the wood in plaice. Yeah, you 'eard. I'm here all week, don't forget to tip your waitress. Nope, turns out he's found another Cheetah. Or maybe a stray dog? Whatever, the sides are glued onto the Maple tail-block using hot hide glue. There must be a reason why luthiers don't use Araldite - I mean, it's always worked for me on plates and stuff. Maybe wood is too absorbent? Or is it because it looks like snot? Who knew that luthiery was such a hotbed of innuendo? Next up is a bit of rimming. Here's the joined up rim-set (I don't know whether that means set as in 'group of things' or is something to do with the efficacy of the various adhesives used thus far.) At least we now have an outline of a guitar, albeit one without a neck.

You probably put it in the same safe place where the rubber feet for your workmate currently reside
