A little more progress. I thought about fretting the fingerboard first before gluing it to the neck but decided not to in the end. The guitar will be strung up "in the white" fretless to work out what extra shaping of the fretboard needs to be done to dial in the flamenco playing action. Then it will be fretted. Jonny bought a pre-slotted ebony fretboard which needed to be thicknessed, profiled and the taper cut. Then the end of the fretboard needs to match the edge of the soundhole and I use this jig to do that: With this result: The bottom of the fretboard needs to be carefully shaped to match the guitar top above the soundhole and then is positioned on the neck. Two 2mm holes have been drilled through the centre of the second and eleventh frets to accept cocktail strips and with the fretboard in the correct position are drilled into the neck. The cocktail sticks hold the fretboard in the correct position. The 2mm holes will be covered by the frets: The fretboard is then glued on using fish glue and the cocktail sticks removed: Let's see how it looks in the morning.

Clamps and cauls taken off, it's into the Troji to shape the neck to meet the fingerboard edges: Then it's back into the production line:

Wow - that looks amazing Dave, what a nice surprise to see it develpoing so quickly, thanks again for working so hard on it.
One thing I was worried about was the fret measurements... but that was before you came on board - every mistake could be patched up, but if I got the fret measurements wrong I'd have a lot of hassle to correct them. Looks like there was no chance the fingerboard would slip during glueing with those cocktail sticks, I presume you downed the Sangria!

Cheers bluesboytoby. Here's the headstock and bridge design. Headstock shape due to the diamond theme and the bridge shaped like the one I made on my classical, nicked from Kohno, but elegant and also in keeping with the diamonds. Jonny

As Leo would say it's time to "get allegro with El Diamante Negro" . The Gotoh tuners Jonny has chosen are checked for fit: The Ebony back strap is glued on using fish glue: Here it is after the glue has dried and it has been cut/sanded back to match the slots and headstock. The final shaping of the volute will be left for Jonny to do when he comes next week: Next Jonny's chosen headstock shape is marked it - looks very Lord of the Rings . The ebony rhombus insert flanked by black/pear/black purfling is made and the headstock carefully routed out for it: The inlay is glued in using fish glue and then clamped with cauls:

Those pointy bits on the headstock are likely to get damaged very easily..... Especially if they are used to repel over curious punters at drunken wine factory gigs! But, great to see this moving forwards again. Keiht

Only just seen this Very interesting thread and some great photos too. You would have liked the guitar makers 'shops' in Granada (see avatar) but they would not let me take any photos's. I risked waking up with a horse's head in bed (or whatever the equivalent the Spanish would use) be to get that one Keep up the good work. Phil

Keith - Yes the point bits will give Jonny a fighting chance although it doesn't have much weight Martin - Yes - it should look good. Phil - Thanks. I've been in the Granada guitar makers' shops a few times as Andalucia is a favourite holiday spot for the De Faoite family.

After a lot of swearing, rasping and sanding the headstock is shaped - again Jonny can fine tune it. The nut is also fitted and the Gotoh tuners put in to see how it looks:
