It looks stunning - brilliant piece of work and a credit to you both. I had not come across the term "golpeador" before. Shall keep it in reserve for crosswords and Scrabble, if Leo doesn't write a song about it first... Brian Brian thanks - glad to be able to help your Scrabble potential. She looks fantastic davewhite and jonnymosco. Looking forward to hearing some of that Flamenco stuff Leo - thanks too but don't hold your breath or look my way, you'll have to await the return of Jonny M Gorgeous! Look forward to hearing it. Dave - how are the golpeadors affixed? keith Keith - thanks. Staples seem to work well It's pieces of the sticky backed clear mylar that Stew-Mac sell for making clear pick-guards.

Staples seem to work well It's pieces of the sticky backed clear mylar that Stew-Mac sell for making clear pick-guards. Aha! Thanks Dave. I thought I couldn't see any nails or screws! Do you suppose a bit of that stuff might last well enough as a protective area under the tailpiece of eg CBM/CBT etc to protect against wayward ball ends etc? Not quite as "bespoke" as the nice bits of wood that you supply, but just thinking.... Keith

Keith,
Yes it would. I'll post some scraps/offcuts off to you - you just need very sharp scissors to cut it to shape with.

I'm gob-smacked - not been online for a day and miss the most exciting stage of the guitar. It looks phenomenal and the finish really brings out the tones of the woods. A pain about the neck refinishing and also the frets though. Thankfully I have a little staple remover which should come in useful, but those golps (?) look cool. I can't wait to see and play it in the flesh. Has the tone changed much due to the finish? Wow and more wow...

Very nice Dave & Jonny!
Heavy rasgueado can be a cause of damage on guitars without golpeadors.
(Not that Leo needs any help from me...)

Looks beautiful. The finish looks stunning.
What's the action like Dave? Is there 'enough' fret buzz?
Golpeadors are there for a technique called 'Golpe', which means banging in your ring finger/thumb of your picking hand to accentuate particular beats.
I also put a bit of the protector strip by the ends of the strings as the guitar I bought had some scars there.

Has the tone changed much due to the finish? Wow and more wow... Well it needs "Jonny Hammerhand" to fully test it out and it will take a day or so for it to get used to string tension again (plus these strings have been up and down more time than a . . .) but it still sounds pretty good to me. When I say it's "finished" that's a relative term. It will still need work on the saddle to dial in your preferred action and get the intonation optimal. Very nice Dave & Jonny! Heavy rasgueado can be a cause of damage on guitars without golpeadors. (Not that Leo needs any help from me...) Joe - thanks and nice one Looks beautiful. The finish looks stunning. What's the action like Dave? Is there 'enough' fret buzz? Shubbs - thanks. The action is where we set it when Jonny came last time. When first set up it was much lower and had the "rattle" that sounded very flamenco to me but Jonny wanted it higher to suit his style of playing. Plenty of room to come down though if required ( or to go up for that matter.) Lovely jubbly - looks very, very nice indeed I look forward to hearing it as well - a bit of Spanish stuff please Jonny Thanks Phil and I'm sure that Jonny will oblige in due course Blimey, that looks amazing! Thanks Ross - it sounds pretty good too.

Very exciting day for me today - after dropping the kids off at school I trundled off to Dave's to see and collect El Diamante Negro. It's gorgeous in looks, feel and sound. We strung it up with some new flamenco strings and it sprung to life. It has a massive sound and is very punchy, I've been playing it tonight and it's very hard to put down; been playing it in a house full of musicians and the general consensus from them (and me) is that it sounds authentic and much more than quite good. Dave really did go the extra mile for me and I really appreciate all his extra hard work and skill dedicated to the project. It's come a long way since I handed him a plastic bag full of 'bits' at Halifax last year. And when I think of the first conversation I had with my mate Marcus the luthier about a joint flamenco project four or five years ago, it seems hard to believe it's actually now not just assembled, but a working inspirational instrument. I'm really looking forward to getting to know it better and developing my flamenco playing, no excuse now. Thanks again Dave... when life has settled down a bit I'll sort out some recordings. Jonny

Jonny,
It's been an interesting journey from those two carrier bags you handed over at Halifax last September and I've enjoyed it a lot. Kudos to you - the top was already shaped and braced by you in that bag and we didn't alter it at all. El Diamante Negro looks good and sounds good to me - in fact it looks and sounds a lot better than any professional made flamenco guitars I have played since. You should be very proud indeed.
Looking forward to hearing the music you make with it.
