Brilliant news this is going ahead with Dave's help, Jonny! I'm really looking forward to seeing how this goes, particularly if the photographs continue to be as interesting and amusing as these

And it was all going so well until I got involved Helping make a flamenco and building using a Spanish heel is new learning curve territory to me and the neck angle and geometry is vital, particularly on a flamenco to get the low string height at the bridge and low action that allows the classic percussive (literally on the top ) flamenco playing style. The neck angle wasn't right from closing up the box and so I had to "slip the heel" a process of un-glueing the back from the neck block and re-glueing at the different neck angle. This is always a "buttock clenching" process especially with very thin plates of wood and the cypress back suffered a little collateral damage in the process. On a dark wood this wouldn't have been a big issue as you can mend and blend reasonably easily. On a light wood everything shows and invisible repairs are difficult to impossible. I am good at lateral thinking though and so some creative inlay of ebony was the result and hence "El Diamante Negro" - the black diamond. When the binding is on a guitar you get the first inkling of how the guitar will sound and respons and thi one will be a good one methinks - testament to Jonny's bracing and thicknessing of the top.

You're a diamond geezer Dave - good thinking. Hope the buttocks have recovered. Wouldn't like to think you'd rectum. Keith

I rather like the ebony diamond... I hope it sounds as good as Dave reckons it will - no reason why it shouldn't. 4 years in the making - that's longer than an elephant

Let's hope the soundboard doesn't cave in!
It's been a real pleasure working with Dave, I've learnt a lot and really looking forward to the next stage.

I am good at lateral thinking though and so some creative inlay of ebony was the result and hence "El Diamante Negro" - the black diamond. When it comes to flamenco guitars, it should be 'El Diamante Negra', ('negro' is masculine, 'negra' is feminine, the spanish word for guitar 'guittarra' is feminine). Also the term 'negra' for Flamenco Guitars means something very finite. It means a a guitar with a dark wood for back and sides, eg Brazilian/Indian Rosewood. A guitar with Cypress back and sides is a 'Blanca', and calling a cypress guitar/blanca 'a negra' is like calling a dreadnaught sized guitar 'A Parlour Guitar'. When it comes to flamenco guitars, the two major different types are Blancas and Negras. It's not upto me, but I would not call the guitar the name which you have stated. It makes absolutely no sense on several accounts.

EWH, In Flamenco blanca and flamenco negra the adjectives for black/white refer to the guitar which as you say is feminine in Spanish and so are negra and blanca. I'm refering to the diamond (El diamante) which is masculine in Spanish hence the masculine form for the adjective - negro. The adjective black refers to the diamond (which is black) and not the guitar. So grammatically it's correct and descriptively it's correct. So I see no issues. It's a Flamenco blanca called "El diamante negro" - simples. If we're going to be pedantic it's best to be pedantically pedantic

What things this forum does spawn!!! Not only guitar build threads, but cooperation between members to build a guitar. Not only that but helpful suggestions on Spanish naming. Not only that but help in Spanish gender reassignment. Marvellous!!! Oh, yes, btw I think the covered up mistake use of creative motif looks absolutely great. Be interested to hear the guitar once complete. Mr 007, you have no faith. I'm sure it'll be ready for 2022!
