Already loving this guitar! Flamenco is one of my main playing styles so if you need a "tester" for "El Diamante Negro" I will do what I can Sounds great in all seriousness though!

Very nice looking and sounding indeed.
Will it be French Polished with Shellac? It's not that common, but I think nitro would be a good finish too. I tried a DeVoe negra which had a nitro finish, and it was the finest flamenco guitar I've ever played!

Had a great time cleaning up the flamenco with Dave at the weekend - almost finished. It's amazing what can be achieved with some super glue and wood dust.
Some of the frets around the 12th have been a bit problematic, that compromise has to be found between 'slap' and clarity, lower down the fingerboard it seemed to be more straightforward.
A massive thank you, especially for all the problem solving.
Earwighoney - I'll let Dave chip in on the finish.

Jonny, I'll wager that one day they will discover that the centre of Black Holes are made of super glue and wood dust. Shubbs, The finish will be pre-catalysed lacquer on the back sides and neck and shellac/Liberon Finishing oil on the top. The lacquer should get sprayed sometime next week and then the top will be done by hand.

Alright Dave,
Thanks for that info. I'm looking forward to seeing it completed.
Do you have any inclinations to make any additional nylon string guitars?

Do you have any inclinations to make any additional nylon string guitars? I'm very tempted to make a Flamenco and have put aside a set of Pear b/s and a Caucasian spruce top together with a Spanish cedar neck blank and a Bog oak fingerboard/bridge blank. It will probably have English walnut bindings and headplates with black/ pear/ black purfling. It's going to bridge the gap between Blanca and Negra and be a Flamenco Rosa and it will be called "La Gran Niña" - "The Big Girl". It was going to be my next build as a present for my 50 plus VAT birthday this year but will probably be made next year now as instead my "present" is going to be a Baritone Acoustic Lap Slide guitar tuned in Bb to Bb - watch this space or a thread on this Forum coming soon to a cinema near you

Sounds like some great plans there Dave.
What tonewoods are you going to go for the Baritone Weiss? After the all Walnut one you made for the Big German I suggested on the old forum that a all walnut Weiss would be awesome!
I'm excited about La Gran Nina already! Not come across pearwood for b/s for flamenco, but I reckon it'd make a awesome flamenco guitar. Probably a little more sustain than cypress but a lot less than EIR, maybe tonally between a negra and a blanca (more towards the blanca though); I find the middle ground for flamenco guitars the most appealing in some ways. If you have any of your Columbian Rosewood I reckon that'd make a excellent flamenco too, and looking at your tonewood page I reckon the set of Hormigo would make a killer negra which would be glassy, percussive, sweet trebles.
Sorry I got a bit carried away...

Shubbs, Half right on the Baritone Weiss woods - at the moment it's a Claro Walnut b/s with Euro spruce top, but I am pondering using the harp guitar English walnut set I have for it paired with an English walnut top. I'll have to choose soon as I'm starting it in July My last Colombian Rosewood set is on Keith's octave mandolin but I do have the Hormigo set which based on what I've read on the AGF is getting hard to get so maybe I should keep it as an investment I may well get to start the Flamenco Rosa later this year - my only worry is that it won't be as good as Jonny's

Two days to go to July, which ever choice you go for the Weiss go for the Walnut. I saw that thread on AGF too about Hormigo, it's rare by all accounts. It's supposed to sound a bit like Brazilian. It's strange how Brazilian is like Chicken, many other things sound/taste like Brazilian/Chicken. No one ever really describes Chicken to taste like other things though, eg this Chicken tastes a bit like Crocodile without the taste of Fish. If you don't mind me asking do you have any other interesting back and side sets? **** When it comes to guitars, it's all about flamenco. Why would that be? Would it be the rich cultural history associated with it that concerns a melting pot of Indian, Eastern European, Jewish and Spanish music? No, not at all. It's the combover. Not the greatest photo, but it's insight to the beauty of the combover is reason why you should start the flamenca rosa as soon as you can, I'm sure it will be great too.

I'll get Jonny working on his "combover" for when "El Diamante Negro " is ready. The back and sides sets I have are on the "Options" page of my website.

KO we're off to the races again. The first few coats of pre-catalysed lacquer have been sprayed on the back, sides and neck:

Just spotted this - wow, the cypress really looks gorgeous under that lacquer, very exciting to see it almost finished. I'm hoping that fluorescent green backstrip has toned down a bit too, what a silly choice.

Jonny Jonny, Yes - it's strangely reminiscent of your Sobell's Brazilian Rosewood back "green flashes" under the acid catalysed lacquer finish Assuming it levels and rubs out OK the back and sides should be done. Maybe a few more coats on the neck and then I can start on the top with the shellac/oil varnish. Don't forget to point me in the direction of some golpeador pictures for the shape of the ones you want.
