Wow! I duck out of this section for a few weeks and all hell breaks loose! What a collection of outstanding entries! Thank you to David, Lynn, Phil, Alistair and Colan for posting such well written, well played and highly listenable pieces of music, in addition to the fine tunes already submitted. Any one of you could win this. Congrats and best wishes to you all

Lovely tune there, ocarolan. It works very well as an instrumental, very dreamy and floaty, but I see what you mean about the song structure - and it deserves some words, I reckon, at some time in the future when colins isn't threatening deadlines!

Excellent tune, Keith I enjoyed that quite a lot, and agree with Leo's assessment that some words there would work in very nicely should you decide to add them later

Lovely tune Keith
On seeing that you had posted something I began to feel worried. I shouted to Mrs PCT57 - oh no Keith's posted a tune!! Then I listened to it.........and became more worried. Then listened again.................and it began to really dawn on me how good this tune is and what a lovely delicate melody it has that really grows on you. And the title too!! CCC - so simple and effective.
Definitely a big
Cheers
Phil

Ah - the delicate touch of a master at work. What a lovely tune this is Keith - it floats like a butterfly riding a gentle breeze. While agreeing it could work very well with words I do feel it works really well without them too - your skills of giving the melody line just enough subtle emphasis to let it sing for us makes it so. ocarolan, maybe you could call the song "Tribute to Marcel Marceau"?

Well, the first entry was fairly ordinary but, since then that standard has been consistently high... I love "Herringthorne Beck" Mike Floorstand, I thought it was beautifully composed and played. I understand why you chose not to title it "Bumboarding On Baking Trays" in the hope that it wouldn't put off the judges, same reason I didn't call mine "That Symonds Fella's A Bit Of A Sod"

Mike Floorstand - I thought Herringthorpe Beck was just lovely - superbly done, and the tempo change worked really well. Definitely the best story behind the tune so far, but I beg to differ over matters titular - "Bumboarding on Baking Trays" is a great title! Hope your buns didn't suffer too badly. Keith

I've just been listening to the Mike Floorstand piece "Herringthorpe Beck". Another excellent entry in this competition ... I don't fancy the task of the judges having to try to choose one piece that's the winner in this competition. Great work Joe - excellent playing, sound and composition too! The way the piece works musically and in creating contrasting moods as both a slow air and as a more up-tempo piece is very impressive. Nice job with the open string and harp effect - it does give it extra resonances that I wouldn't expect from standard tuning. Thank you for putting the TAB up for it too - it will be fascinating to get some idea of the way it works, though I'm pretty sure from watching your left hand it'll prove too much for my old twinging fingers to play it properly! 'Herringthorpe Beck' - what a great title and background explanation which nicely sets the scene for the music that follows. Very wistful and melancholic which made me feel nostalgic whilst listening - music should affect your feelings. The tone of the Brook Creedy was perfect for the tune - a big Phil

Am now allowing myself to listen to everyone else's submissions, starting with Unlucky Bluestone. Is it Blue Stone or Blues Tone? Either way the tune is terrific, I had it playing on repeat while reading through some other stuff, and was thinking it reminded me a bit of Leo Kottke's style - can I put in a request to hear it on a 12-string at some point? Then I saw you mentioned Kottke earlier so that makes sense. It also reminded me - bear with me on this one - of a kitchen session recording of Munster Cloak which I heard on a Clare FM podcast, which has Christy Moore shamelessly humming along to the playing. I'm sure I heard you lilting along in one section, but more likely is that one of the bass or mid strings on Sybil has been tuned to a liverpudlian accent?
A strong and lovely tune!
