Thanks Keith and Alison. Dave, nailed it in one! Most definitely a flamenco guitar. I can put you in touch with Antonio Suarez Salazar ('Guardiana') and Sara Baras if you want to put a tour on. Colin Colin - glad you are liking it and thanks for the help Do you think you could put Luis Suarez in touch with Liverpool now that we've drawn Man U in the Europa Cup Then it’s out with “ The Scutter” to cut the binding channels. Please tell me you call it "Bob" OK Martin, I call it Bob My flamenco playing is on a par with Lister's though Lovely work Dave. I really like the look of the pegged headstock. Sounds on the deep and warm side of a blanca as well, fine work. I find an action of around 2.75mm to 3mm to be a good one for playing flamenco and getting the right amount of buzz. As for the LB 2001 MT trebles, did you find them a bit 'plasticky'? If that makes sense. I think I might have had that problem with the ones that I tried. Great 1st or 2nd flamenco guitar though. Do you have any plans to make any more? I hope El Xiprer is the start of many more flamenco guitars to come and a 655mm negra of 'The Tree' and some of Bob Smith's finest would be what I would like to see next! Shubs - Thanks - I'm guessing deep and warm are good I'll get a better idea of how good "El Xiprer" is when jonnymosco visits and plays some proper stuff on it and we can compare it with "El Diamante Negra". The La Bella trebles just sounded limp and insipid really - looked great though. I count "El Xiprer" as my first Flamenco - Jonny had completed the top and back on "El Dimante Negra" and I just helped put it all together. No idea if I'll make any more but from banjo experience I've learned never to say never . . . bugger, I just did

Superb workmanship and the in-the-white sound is brilliant too.

John, Francis and Rob - thanks. To soundport port or not to soundport, that is the question. Well, you can choose. I decided to make a stopper for the “Porthole Soundport” as I have done on other guitars so you can chose to play “El Xiprer” with the soundport open or closed. Three rings of Coyote Wood are glued together using hot hide glue – the outer cover and two inserts: The central hole is reamed to fit an ebony bridge pin that is glued in using superglue: The bridge pin is trimmed flush with the inside and a ring of cork glued around the inner rim: Ported: Unported: Simples .

The La Bella trebles just sounded limp and insipid really - Oh dear. I've just bought some of those to try. Luckily it's just the one set.

Just been listening to that through the hifi - lovely sound, rich and deep. Interesting take on sustainable woods.

Alison - Strings are a personal thing and you may love the La Bella trebles. If so I have some spares you can have Thanks Andy.

Yesterday when taking off the strings in preparation for finishing, I noticed that the treble strings had started to cut into the front edge of the tie block between the top two holes. This is because I made the tie block too narrow and the top holes too close to the top of the tie block. So I routed off the old bridge and started on a new one. The new bridge will have a wider tie block and a harder wood cap on the front edge and a bone cap on the back edge – as taught by Obi Wan Symonds. The 3mm wide saddle slot is routed in the Bog Oak bridge blank with this jig together with another 3mm at the front edge of the tie block: A piece of African Blackwood is then glued into this slot. This hard wood cap will stop the treble strings digging in to the tail block: A piece of bone is thicknessed to just under 2mm, marked for the 18 string holes and drilled with a 2mm brad point bit. This will be the template for drilling the tie block string holes and act as the back edge cap: The bone template is stuck onto the bridge tie block with double sided tape and the string holes drilled through with the 2mm brad point bit: A 3mm wide slot is then routed out just in front of the African Blackwood insert: The two wings are then rough cut, the saddle slot area reduced to 6mm high and the bridge is shaped and ramped: A tie-block cap was made matching the headstock inlay and rosette – twin rope purfling framed with black/ pear/ black purfling and Coyote Wood strips. This was glued onto the tie-block: Finally the bone template is glued onto the rear of the tie-block after carefully matching up the string holes: Judge a man not by the cock ups he makes - unless it's Boris Johnson - but by how he blames it on someone else . . . no that's not right, but on how he recovers from them The new bridge will be glued on tomorrow.

Good fix Dave, it's amazing how much pressure a bit of nylon can exert. As you know I even use the bone plate on 18 hole BRW or macassar bridges, so good insurance on the bog oak.

This I can relate to... And not just a recovery, Dave; a distinct improvement - and I bet you didn't swear once.

I love playing the guitar or talking guitar and will pounce on anybody who seems even remotely interested but I'm in admiration of all you builders out there. The bridge here is a work of art as is the guitar itself. I'd dearly love to play some of the instruments featured on the forum. When some important family birthdays have passed I may come a wandering.
