What a beautiful guitar, it's absolutely gorgeous, whoever wins it will be a very happy chap or chapess indeed. And that 'old b string method' is the cleverest thing I've seen all day!

Strings are on and initial set-up carried out, I have the set-up strings on it at the moment, which have seen a few guitars ion their time, but already it is sounding pretty good, I'll let it settle in for a few days then add the clear guard and strap pins, then it'll be off to the lucky winner. (PM me for my BACS details) First job was to set the compensation, (don't get me started!), I use the old 'B' string method where you use a cut off from a B string to act as a moveable saddle. When all six positions are established, the saddle is shaped. A few quick pictures of the finished guitar, I'll post some better pictures later. Forgive the loose string ends, as I said this is my set-up strings, so I don't cut the ends off of these, the set it will have will be all neat and tidy! Competition closes at midnight on Sunday 28th August, if you would like to add this guitar to your arsenal, well you haven't got long. Colin That is some gorgeous instrument.

Well it's all finished and ready for the new owner, Dave, James and I just have to judge the entries now to see who that will be. (I keep checking my bank account and am rather disappointed by the lack of bribes!)
To recap, this is a 15" lower bout OOO 12 fret slothead. This always seems to make the sweetest finger style guitar form, the body is comfortable to play (it's my Torres FE19 plantilla with half inch added all round) and the short scale 632mm with 12 fret to the body puts the bridge in the sweet spot on the guitar, so making a really responsive guitar with a big range of dynamics. It'll kill a banjo and mandolin if needed but can give a gentle accompaniment to a voice.
B&S: Gonzalo Alves Top: White Spruce Neck: Curly Sycamore with pear and black laminates FB/Bridge/headplates: Ziricote Binding: Curly sycamore
White Spruce is by far my favourite American spruce, superior to Red, and don't mention Sitka. Lutz is so good because of it's White Spruce parentage. I still love my Euro spruce, but if I was told I could only ever use White I wouldn't use a night's sleep, it is premium tonewood. The Gonzalo Alves is a dense wood that to me seems to be every bit as good as BRW, works and finished well. This guitar has turned out better than I expected and will only get better as it opens out even more.
Some rough and ready pictures.
Remember Midnight Sunday, winner will be announced early next week.
Colin

Good luck all - superb piece of kit, don't suppose gushing comments about the maker and judges will do much good

colins : Very, very beautiful looking guitar, Colin. Thanks for documenting the build so comprehensively. Sorry, but I must have got your bank details down incorrectly.... Keith
