Thanks very much for listening Jonny, and for your very generous comments! I'm not sure exactly where it is going after me, but I suspect it will be to another player for evaluation Hopefully not to a certain well-known Sobell/PRS player again ...... Keith

Cheers Andrew - it was Kris' version that inspired mine, so well spotted  Yep, I hope I get more instruments to test in the future, and not just Tarans. I'll happiy test anything Rory will be calling in this afternoon for another 'handover' (where I get me guitar back!)

Great stuff, Martin! A career in professional reviewing beckons... Helpful and informed. The recordings especially interesting and useful. I hope to see Rory soon - maybe I'll be able to have a pluck or two.
Also, I was the 'client' you mention in the review - thank you so much for the chance to play your ABW Tirga Beag. It was EXTREMELY helpful in discussions with Rory. Although, if I'm honest, it rather confused the issue as there's now even more choice! Happy dilemma tho...
Thanks again.

Really enjoying listening to the recordings Martin - though I did have to doublecheck the lyrics of Wine Drinker, I couldn't see how the line "My baby left a floater on the train" was relevant to the story

Thanks Alasdair, and I'm glad playing the ABW Tirga Beag helped you make your choice. It really is a fabulous instrument. Last thing I need is irate GNER officials at my door at 5am on a Sunday morning with a bucket and mop

Martin, I have a question... What's the name of the piece Mark Thomson played on your TB in the clip from you meeting in Halifax, part one? Would he have a TAB? (save me the trouble of laboriously learning it by ear.) Your guitar sounds out of this world with this particular piece. ALl the best.

I'm not sure, Alasdair...I'll ask markthomson by email or maybe he'll see this if he's around, and let you know.

I love that piece too Alasdair - at the time Mark didn't have a name for it, though he may do now. I'm not even convinced it was a finished piece at that stage. However, I'm rubbish at DADGAD, but found it easy to work out by ear and from the vid - give it a go, it is a lovely piece!

Lovely to hear the guitar and your playing - I thought you sounded most at home playing with a little swing especially 'High Days', which is really really good and you make it your own. Nice sounding guitar - would be nice to try one day although I'd have liked a slightly fatter sound. I really like Rory's guitars. Cheers

Thanks for that, Keith. Just a little lazy to do it by ear... Must be an age thing. Is it Mark's own composition? It could almost be a showcase for quality instruments. Wonderful. I'll give it a go, maybe it'll take me back to the early days! Thanks again.

Thanks for that, Keith. Just a little lazy to do it by ear... Must be an age thing. Is it Mark's own composition?.............................. I'm lazy too - it's just that ears have always been the quickest way for me throughout many years of playing - and I'm old! And with a video I get to use eyes as well. The only problem then is remembering it! I'm pretty sure it is one of Mark's own, and that he'll be along soon to say more! BTW, I'm not surprised you enjoyed playing Martin's guitar - I think it is lovely too! Keith

It certainly is. I've arranged with Rory to build me a TB in Brazilian RW/Adirondack. Hopefully be ready by crimbo-ish. I'll let you and Martin know how it goes... Yes, you're right - video does make the 'by ear' process easier. Got to love technology. And as for remembering pieces - I rely on muscle memory, as my own isn't what it once was!
