Eight months isn't too bad - that's what I thought I would have to wait, but in the end it was just over a year. My fault though - I ordered right before Rory moved his workshop from Edinburgh to Pittenweem, so there were a few 'lost' months in there while everything was set up!!

Oh god. I can imagine your dismay. The setting up of the new workshop looked problematic, to say the least. Smashing wee set up for him now though. Finding him only required one phonecall after Pittenweem! Let's just say I'm hoping for the best but expecting the worst. I'm off for a few days over the next couple of weeks so I'm thinking of visiting Rory again to thrash out the particulars. (Also have to decide on the woods for the other one...) (Also have to sell some guitars to ease the pain!!!) Tell me, are there quite a lot of sales on the Forum? I've been checking ebay and Taylors aren't going for as much as I'd hoped. Perhaps I'll join you in the guitar selling market. Any joy/nibbles yet? Come to think of it, I placed the order with Rory at the end of last Nov - he told me then that it would prob be Oct this year before he could start on it. I'll tell myself I'm halfway along the road. The power of positive thinking!

The classifieds section on here is quite new, but on the previous incarnation of this forum, I believe there were quite a few private transactions (I bought and sold about four instruments personally at least). Go ahead and post your guitars on here - you might get lucky and it costs nothing. I had some interest with mine, but it waned a bit there Gumtree has been reasonably successful for me in the past - I prefer using it as I like people to try the instruments before they buy so there are no regrets afterwards and the buyer is fully satisfied before committing, but I know there were a few forum members who had good results selling decent guitars via ebay, so that's always an option.

Trouble - slightly - with Gumtree is that I live in the back of beyond: Plockton. Still, nothing ventured... I'll try all outlets and see how things go. I agree about having buyers try them out before parting with the readies. Watch this space... You're up late. My excuse is nightshift. It slides by as I usually have a guitar with me (Goodall tonight)> Talk about peace and quiet! Better go now. I'll be back on tomorrow. Keep up the good work!

Martin, thoroughly enjoyed the review, pictures and recordings, fantastic work all round.
Was particularly delighted to hear you play Braw Sailin' one of my favourite songs, and you did it justice. I first heard it on an Ossian album called Dove Across the Water which dates from 1982, and has the late, great Tony Cuffe singing and playing it, Tony happens to be a bit of a hero of mine. Old Blind Dogs also do a grand version of it on thier Four on the Floor album, which is an excellent album all round.
Alisdair, glad you like the tune! It is one of mine, and still doesn't have a title, but I'll be happy to TAB it and send it to you, it may even prompt me to give it a title.....

In my head, I refer to that tune as Spellbound - because, on first hearing it at HB3, I was. It does need a "proper" Markish title though. Keith

Good news on the 'untitled work' as well

Mark, That would be very kind of you. Love the tune and, as I said, it could be a test piece for quality guitars. Well done. I look forward to hearing more.

Keith, The 'other one'... Hmm, I decided, after due consideration, to order two from Rory. Crossed the Rubicon of 50 last year and looked at guitar collection. Came to the conclusion that having guitars and not playing them is like having paintings and keeping them facing the wall. So I've decided to rationalise/downsize and sell. Four Taylors, a 335 and, maybe a Fylde going out and a couple of Rory's beauties coming in. Perhaps I won't buy another guitar... Do you think any Forum members would be interested in these guitars? I'm a newcomer to it and would appreciate any input. Martin's been very helpful and told me it's worth a go as there's been several sales in the past.

Alisdair, well. Worth posting your sales in the "classifieds" section as it costs nowt and, who knows.... I have a strict 'play 2 a day' policy with my instruments. There's no rota or anything, I just make sure (or try to) that at least a couple get played each day I'm home

Very nice indeed! Tarantastic! 50th is a good thing to celebrate guitarwise! I hope all goes well!! My 50th was a complete disaster and had no guitar content whatsoever, so I made sure my 60th turned out exactly how I wanted and took complete control of organising it, including my first ever custom guitar. I'm thinking maybe 65 next year might call for a similar strategy! Daren't think as far as 70....
Always worth running sales past the Forum unless you have any local personal contacts interested already. Failing that, Gumtree can be good too.
Taylors are always sellable I'd have thought,at the right price.
Fylde - which model/year etc? (my particular interest!)

The Fylde is an Orsino. I got it in '80 or '81 in Glasgow, *2558. It's an oldie but a goodie. It's been refretted and had a Fishman pick up installed by Jimmy Moon. To be honest, I was planning to ask Rory to have a look at it - maybe it'll prove too difficult to let go. It's been a constant companion for many years and every dent and ding means something to me. Especially the two dents I put in the top when I showed to my horrified Mother (she was appalled at the cost). One of the longest silences of my life fell just after the lid of the case dropped onto the pristine cedar top.

Alasdair, if/when you think about moving the Orsino on, then I'd be grateful to know! No pressure, no promises! But it sounds to me that you'll struggle to let it go - you've been through too much together. An Orsino is the only guitar I've regretted letting go! Well, apart from my Lowden O25, but thanks to Martin I bought it back again! Keith
