Okay, it's not mine, but Rory called around this afternoon and dropped off his new prototype Taran Dreadnought guitar for me to try. I'll hopefully get a good chance to play it over the next few days, and I'll post my impressions/review of the guitar at the weekend

Wonderful! Was that the one pictured somewhere in the interview?
How about "kidnapping" it and starting up an unofficial Road Trip.... Keith

Yes it was in the workshop photo. I did suggest a road trip for this one, but I'm not sure if that's the idea....but you never know First impressions are

It's very nice this geetar - I was a tiny bit unsure to begin with, but it looks like the new string ZING has yet to wear off a bit, and it's sounding better and better. Tried to do a recording last night using the H2 as a USB mic into Audacity, and the sound quality was dreadful, so I'm charging up my batteries for the Tascam DP-004 and will try again with that later.

The bridge is quite far down the soundboard - is it a 12 fretter ?? lovely and curvey for a dreadnought - actually very similar in shape to the smaller baroque guitars, I'm loving this as a concept.
Would love to hear this .. anything would suffice - completely non judgemental ears.
Cheers

I noticed the bridge position in the second photo appears a lot further down - in the first pic it seems a lot closer to the centre of the soundboard. The guitar is definitely a standard 14-fret dreadnought style, and I'll get some recordings plus a full review up as soon as I can. Only got four more evenings with this lovely thing, so best make the most of them

The Tascam gave me a bit of bother last night with file errors, but thankfully I changed the SD card and it works fine. Not well enough though - I recorded three tracks and they all sound terrible, mainly due to mistakes, flubs and bad technique. I'll try again later to get something up for this guitar, but I can safely say right now that it retains much of the character of the Taran OMs I have in terms of feel, response and tone, but I can tell it is already noticabley louder and a bit more powerful when pushed. In fact, this guitar rewards a firmer touch, displaying quite impressive dynamics. How hard it is played really does shape the sound as well as the volume. And it has LOADS of headroom. Even strummed quite hard it remains very clear and defined. Anyway, enough blabbering, and in the absence of a recording, here's another pic:

Aw come on Martin - you're only trying to build up the anticipation aren't you?! Nice pic though! Keith I wish I was....but really, it's because I'm duff I may just record some simple sound samples just to give an impression of the guitar, rather than ruin it by failing to play anything of note. Some strummage and arpeggios may be the order of the day

My main instrument is: probably needing new strings

I shall look forward to that... I've always liked a shapely dreadnought and, having played a few of Rory's other guitars (and from your impressions so far), I reckon this one'll be up there with 'em.

Hi Martin
Just tell yourself it's the guitar sound everyone is interested in not your recording ability (I know you can play well so no worries there). Strum and pick some chords all the way up the fretboard, some open string chords also, some single line noodling (story of my life) maybe capo above the 5th also ... then stand on your head and do it back to front.
Cheers :-)
