Keith, I'll gladly keep you informed. I've arranged to see Rory next week and I've asked him to have a look at it for an opinion. Keeping it may depend on final cost of Rory's builds. However, I'll certainly keep you posted. I'll stick some pics on later - it's tatty but sounds/plays a treat. All the best.

Mark, That would be very kind of you. Love the tune and, as I said, it could be a test piece for quality guitars. Well done. I look forward to hearing more. Hi Alisdair, I created the TAB this morning, if you ping me your email address via pm, I'll send it to you. I have decided to call it "The Ringing Tune", which is a bit naff, but it does what it says on the tin If you want to hear more, played on a Taran to boot, you can watch a batch of vids I recorded at Martins last December - www.youtube.com/user/phelpsflats/videos?view=0&flow=grid , mostly arrangements, but some originals. Cheers

Mark, You're a gentleman. I'm about to embark on a few days off - it'll be good to have something to do! I like your title; as you say, it does what it says on the tin. I've watched the vids you refer to. I was lucky enough to try the guitar at Rory's last week - it's a beauty and you certainly do it justice. email - plockwegian@live.co.uk
Thank you again.

Thank you so much for that. It's making nightshift SO much easier!
Keith,
I'll got some pics up this week.
Cheers to you both.

I guess this has developed into a kind of review after all, fragmented though it is throughout the thread. Therefore it's been moved to the review section - hope that's more suitable

Good work on these Martin. I enjoyed the Jansch/Frank covers in particular.
It seems whatever Rory's hands touches turns to gold, the dread sounds amazing.

"Braw sailing in on the Sea" is my favourite track on Kris Drever's excellent Black Water album...never heard it anywhere else before..a fine version The classic version of this song is by the late Tony Cuffe (Greenock, Edinburgh and Boston, Mass) Recorded with the legendary Scottish band Ossian in 1982. I was their sound engineer for the whole of 1981 so I heard this song live 130 times!

Hi Alistair, I also mentioned the Tony Cuffe / Ossian version earlier in the thread, totally agree on it being the definitive version of the tune! You are the 2nd person I've came across who was a sound engineer for them, I know John Weatherby, who runs Soundsense out of Moffat, he toured the States with them back in 1986 I think. I never had the good fortune to see Tony play in the flesh, but I do love his recorded output both as part of Ossian and solo.

Keith,
Sorry about delay. Re the Orsino - it's gonna have to go. If you're interested, I'll get some pics on site tomorrow. Rory had a look at it last week and reckoned it was fine with no issues - aside from 30 plus years of adventures in and around Glasgow!
As I said, I saw Rory last week and decided to order two Tirga Beags. One in BRW/It and another in Coco/Adi. Hence the vanishing Fylde. Maybe have them by crimbo - happy days!
All the best.
Alasdair.

Thanks Martin.
Trying not to think about the wait. I put first order in last Nov and Rory's keen to build both in tandem - result! Maybe finished Oct-Dec. Here's hoping. When I was there he'd just finished a Cocobolo/Adirondack TB and let me try it. It's a long time since I've been smitten...
I'll keep you posted.
Still no joy with your sale? I'm just about to dip my toe in the guitar-selling puddle - with due trepidation.
Dunno what it's like in Hamilton - here? You know Summer's approaching with the onset of epic, not to say biblical rain in the north west. Ah me.
All the best.
