Time to start another build thread. John Bird, birdo has asked me to build him a parlour. We've been through the process of timber selection they have been ordered and a parcel arrived on Friday. and unpacking revealed: Essentially the parlour will have back and sides of Bocote, a sitka spruce soundboard, bog oak fretboard, bridge and head facing. The neck is mahogany (this piece is very heavy so it will get changed for cedrela or the guitar will be way out of balance - always use the mahogany for something else ) It will have a 12th fret neck join and 13 frets, the remainder of the fretboard will be fairly plain but have a small motif (TBC). Head will be slotted with Rubner nickel tuners having ebony buttons. This is a non cutaway design, with sound port, lacewood bindings with a rosette containing elements of bocote. Materials are currently acclimatising and I plan to start the build process in a week or two...

Great news francis . What do you know about Bocote that you can share with us? Thanks, Dale earthbalm this is probably the best (unbiased) reference: www.wood-database.com/bocote/I like it as the material I've previously bought from Timberline has worked easily, has a good ring and sustains well. Although it feels very slightly oily/greasy it glues well with Titebond. More to follow as the tread continues...

Noted that: a) It is related to the rather beautiful zizicote and b) It has a scent that resembles dill pickles Please do let us know more as the build progresses.

I m a bit concerned now. My wife is pregnant at the moment and has a craving for pickled onion monster munch. If that extends to all pickles this guitars days could be numbered.

If it sounds anywhere near as good as it looks, birdo is going to be a very happy man indeed. Brian
