Neck roughed out and dry fitted, the dovetails pin has been fitted to its body socket. Still need to splice the headstock to the neck. Waiting for some binding and veneer lines to arrive. The back isn't fitted yet and the way things are going it will be virtually the last thing to do. Francis

Can I ask a daft question? What are those slotted bits called? Are they all one piece with slots cut into it? Always wondered why some guitars have them and some just have a continuous strip. Kerfed linings. They provide a flexible gluing platform for the front and back plates of a guitar as the sides are quite thin. Sometimes made up of continuous thin wood strips in multiple layers.

Absolutely superb Gary. The timbers and the abalone really set each other off. (Mmmm must try harder on mine...)

Superb workmanship and the in-the-white sound is brilliant too.

If I can poke my nose in here, francis ... The man I've linked to above also goes into great detail about sourcing a heat blanket, I seem to remember. Rob Thanks will read later...

I use stainless 0.5mm thick. Various places will cut to size for you (Click metal etc) or Flea bay will probably have something...
Were did you get your heat blanket from?

Rosie - I like the way you mocked the rosette up first. I use photoshop and a scanner to scan in the timbers and then do a virtual cut to shape and layer the scans twist and turn them until I get what I feel is right. See the Mandolin project I'm doing at the moment the first image is a mock-up in PS of the mandolin as I envisioned it...
Liking this thread very much

Are you using any particular masking tape for this Dave - no problems with the grain tearing out when you remove it?

Working on the neck block and fitting it to the soundboard: Neck block and carbon rods sitting on the soundboard to check clearances etc... Two views of the neck block. Top face has a 10 foot convex radius, bottom still to be profiled Hope you like Francis

Mmmm interesting - not that a guitar was built in a week but more in how the two guys were handling and using their tools, especially the spoke shaves. Just didn't look comfortable to me. How workpieces were held while working on them... Just seemed wrong. They got there so well done to you both.

All taped up! Just offered the side up together to see how they looked. The two slats are just to hold the sides at their finished spacings - seems to fit OK: Bottom (back) edge uppermost in photo. Francis

Roughed out the maple neck block, taking out the bulk of the dovetail socket: Further shaping to come with quite a lot of the bulk being removed to lighten things. A thrust bar will be added to insert the carbon rods and longitudinal braces into. Francis
